I don’t think so I think is they have some kind of training equivalent then I guess it would be ok some people work with firearms but don’t own any not me though
Agreed, When we were licensed to operate a deadly weapon in high school. Could we imagine a 16 yr old hitting the road with no training. But on the other side I’m agreement that or rights should have no prerequisits. Wonder how many would train formally if it was free. All of my kids are CCW. I started their firearms training early. Then as with me they got some add on training courtesy US Army.I have been carrying for awhile. I have had 2 close calls to where I thought I was going to have to draw my weapon. In that moment everything slows down. With me it was amazing how the things I have learned came up in that short moment. I say continue to learn. I also place high value on life
Kinda off subject here, but a new weapons owner that knows nothing about a weapon or even the take down and cleaning of a weapon is a problem, when i first went in the Army,I new and had a weapon all my life, but we spent about 2 weeks dis assembling the M 1 Carbine repeatedly and toward the end were blind folded and had to take down and reassemble the weapon and had to do it repeatedly until it was done in the time limit we were given, but when I took my first and later CC classes no instructor asked for us to field any weapons or asked if there was any one that needed help on the functions of a weapon no one even asked if there were any first time buyers it was just stand and load and fire x amount of bullets at target haven’t had any instructor ask if every one was familiar with their weapon
We will have some happy-trigger not knowing basic knowledge of self defense and the correct ways to handle weapons, may cause more innocent injured. Is like " the best legal case that you have is, better a bad agreement than a day in court".
Sorry to say this " if you have money to buy a weapon or various and bullets to practice, you must save some for good coaching. Training is no only to become an expert sharpshooter. Is to have control of emotions and the laws that each place has of" what is self defense "
Hello and welcome @Pedro16
You are correct in ways here, but I have never trained to be a sharp shooter. I am not
military, nor police. Many people, over 6 million registered gun owners have been in somewhat a panic mode to buy firearms of all type and there are many people believe that all it takes to stay save.
It roughly takes $ 200.00 to take a required safety class on Concealment and Carrying of a firearm, then purchase you permit/license from your state you live in. Many people do not have that basic requirement.
I am not bragging and I am sill asking many questions to educate myself and I have been almost full time
and with 5 years, I find out you and I will NEVER see the final page of practice and training; THE END,
NEVER. People are living in a world of MYTH and Make Believe. You and I better grow up.
The issue with assuming that there is going to be more accidental deaths due to new firearm owners is not validated by the facts. The CDC keeps vital records, including mortality data, easily found on their website. Accidental deaths by firearms have decreased dramatically since the CDC began recording these stats. For a reference, in 2000, the total number of accidental deaths by firearm was 776; in 2015, it was 489; in 2019, it was 483 (the last year currently available). Considing the vast increase in firearms each year, even from 2015 to 2019, the data shows the reality does not match your concern.
In 2000 the total number of deaths were 2,403,351; in 2015 it was 2,712,630; in 2019 it was 2,854,838. So you can see that not only the number of accidental deaths by firearm have decreased, the rate also decreased.
CDC 2000 Mortality Data, page 44. of the pdf shows the accidental deaths.
CDC 2015 Mortality Data, page 33 of the pdf shows the accidental deaths.
CDC 2019 Mortality Data, page 40 of the pdf shows the accidental deaths.
I was that “new weapons owner” when I bought my first firearm @Layton. I didn’t know anything about gun ownership but I took the time to learn. This was before Al Gore invented the internet and I had to resort to a couple books and asking people at a range.
Welcome @Pedro16! There is not a person here who does not believe firearms education and training are necessary for firearms ownership. However, there should not be any training requirements put on a person to exercise a Constitutional right.
If we are going to put educational requirements on firearms, then let’s do the same on the right to vote, the right to free speech, freedom of the press or the right to assemble. Maybe we should require every citizen to take a Constitutional law class so they actually know what it says and how it has been interpreted by the Supreme Court.
People should know (and are legally presumed to know) the law. We are presumed to know not only the Constitution but every law of the United States but also the laws over every jurisdiction in which you are physically present and, in some cases, virtually present.
I am all for training. But, training should not be a requirement to exercise a right and, if it is, the same or similar requirements should not be questioned when required to exercise any other right.
Thank you sir for your help in these words and for help to understand. Sometimes words can be very
misunderstood and I worry about writing something that is easy to misunderstand. Every body learns differently, but I believe it is an honor to be teachable.
The word TRAINING means to me is to take course (s), class (s), some form of instruction (s), and guidance from someone that has been educated to teach, an instructor. There are many good retired
military and police here in Florida.
Then training leads to put everything learned in this above to become the best I can be, the way I was taught by those instructors. Safety must be always and first. I meant no harm here.
Thank you again for your instructions and help.
Bill
You’re welcome @William_H.
Most of my training has been formal as well. But I will tell you, there are folks on the fringes of society who learned from their daddy, who learned from their daddy and so on, who know more about firearms, safety and what you can and can’t do (the law) then us city slickers. Point being, there are as many ways to teach and learn as there are people.
Thank you for the response, and yes I got my first 22 bolt action at 6 years old,and went with my brothers hunting to provide extra food for the family,we took a loaf of bread and salt and pepper, and if we didnt shoot any thing while hunting we didnt eat, that was a good incentive to not miss.As for saftey after 1/2 times coming the door with the bolt closed m mother wood kick me out the back door,we lived in a shot gun house, didnt take long to realize that a foot to the behind flying out the door to remember bolt open!
I fully agree with you.
I love History from Civil War through WW 11 and the Historians and the Researchers have done beautifully. The history of all the firearms that have been used and the greatest one; the
.30 / 06’ 1903, 1905, 1906. M1 Rifle, with the true clip, NOT MAGAZINE.
It took a lot of practice and you had to learn fast to shoot with great skill, with the rifles in the Civil War and remember SGT. York in WW 1, in his humble beginning. Shooting and Hunting was life or death.
Until now ! I would love just be a photographer and be apart of nature.
Thank you !
Welcome to the family @Pedro16 and you are in the right place at the right time.
No government required training before purchase or carry does not bother me. What is a concern is that convicted criminals have never bothered with permits and laws and are not prosecuted, such as in Chicago. Why do we need more laws when the existing ones are ignored?
You are right,a person should not have to be required to train, but in the same respect ,each person with a weapon should voluntarily either pay for training or like I do ,I self train myself, there should be no requirement of mandatory training with a weapon at all,it is strictly up to the person to if they and their weapon are to be as one
PA does that already. Unless you are a felon (yes, the sheriff told me felons apply for a permit. Even ones wanted by the police. No criminal masterminds here) you will get yours in a matter of minutes.
I’ve noticed an advertisement that frequently comes on YouTube before a program. It talks about National Reciprocity becoming law and the need for a person getting a permit immediately by going on line answering six basic questions. Upon completion you get your permit immediately in the mail. No application, No Classroom, No Range, No fingerprints etc. This advertisement is so incredibly misleading. It sounds like a third party entity getting funds for items not seeded, when you still have to apply to New Hamshire for a non-resident state permit..
I see that AI ad every night watching YouTube. I’m real sure the “master sergeant” and his wife aren’t even real. “It’s a loophole, son.” I started filling out information just so I could give them some crap, but seems like it’s a generic vender type of place, like Temu…they really should have the crap beat out of them.. Getting a badge is freaking comical.
Last nights ad from them was the mad girlfriend 'cuz the boy didn’t go after the 3 creeps, then her dad says he did the right thing, then does the permit spiel, like once you have your “permit” (and badge?
) and get a gun (I note the $50 includes a holster, for what gun who knows) you can basically look for altercations…smdh, but YouTube has turned to crap lately and seems this is okay, while showing how to load a mag isn’t.
I saw another ad on YouTube that is so embarrassing to Minnesota because the ad depicts a State Highway Patrol Trooper not because of the uniform appearance (definitely not a Minnesota Trooper uniform - trust me, I live here) during a traffic stop. The subject of a MINNESOTA Permit to Carry comes up in the conversation. The driver is schooling the trooper (so embarrassing) about how to get a Minnesota Permit to Carry. Talk about Fake News! Oh yeah, and I am sure the badge (it comes with permit) is a great way to impersonate a Law Enforcement Officer and get you arrested if for no other reason. Wow, talk about False Advertising. Oh my word, that 3rd party company wasted a lot of
money for misleading people (who believe this nonsense) on YouTube.
