NeoMag: Have you used them and why do you like/dislike them

I was wondering if anyone has tried the NeoMag and what they think of them good and bad. I really don’t want anymore OWB mag holders and NeoMag seems to fit the bill. Do they work?

I have tried them for pocket carry with 9mm single stack magazines. I have 7 round or 10 round magazines depending on the EDC choice that day. Several rounds will be loose in my pocket at the end of the day with the 7 round magazine. The 10 round works fine. I’m pretty sure the difference is not feed lip retention, but rather the 10 round magazine bottoms out in my pocket. As I go about my day sitting down and standing up pulls the rounds out of the 7-round magazine.

The 7-round is for a Sig Sauer P938. The 10-round is for a Springfield EMP 1911.

This is a thread I started not long ago

I was wondering if the mag will snap off the NeoMag like if you wear blue jeans and sit down or any other movements. I have 12 round double stack mags and I worry about that mostly. Is the magnet strong enough to keep it attached?

Yes, that is it. My main worry is that the mag will come off the holder when sitting or possibly some other movements since I would probably have it in my front pocket. Do you have any experience with them?

The ones I got are a NeoMag knockoff, so I can’t comment on their retention strength. My intent was pocket carry and I did not spend a whole lot of effort testing them belt carry.

I do not. I don’t really understand the value of that over a no-risk traditional one. Can you explain?

Sure, I would rather not carry owb. I’m somewhat skinny and tall and when I reach up for something my tshirts will stick on the top of the mag sometimes and I truly don’t know if they are something that has to be concealed as well as the firearm. Plus, I don’t want a velcro top to cover my mag just because me and velcro just don’t get along sometimes and if I need it I don’t want to fight my mag carrier. The NeoMag looks like I can just grab it with two fingers and pull it out of my pocket. I was just wondering if the mag ever snaps away from the magnet or any other possible problems that someone may have experienced.

It never let go of the magazine in my pocket.

I use one for my P365 17 round backup mag. It works great. The clip is extremely strong (which help retention), and some experimentation is required to get it in place correctly. On some trousers it seems to work best when installed all the way “back” closest to the centerline seam. On other trousers it seems to work best located about 1" forward of the seam. It is very easy and intuitive to extract the mag from the holder, but takes a little practice to get it in place with only one hand. I have not tried it in a back pocket (I don’t think it would be pleasant to sit on).

Thanks. I have a p365xl with 12 round mags. Good to hear about the little nuances.

Although no experience with the NeoMag, I’ve been using the Galco PMC (Pocket Magazine Carrier) in my jeans for years with my single stack 45 mag and love it.

Here’s the link to the P365 XL version: PMC Pocket Magazine Carrier

Thanks, I haven’t seen that one. I’ll take a look at it. A question I have is when you pull the mag does the holster want to come out with it or is it like a sticky holster that will stay where it is at.

It’s the rough side of leather, and the shape of the holster helps hook it in the pants while pulling out the magazine. I’ve only worn it with jeans or jean style pockets, so I don’t have experience using it with dress pants or horizontal cut pockets. It also has a tension adjustment screw.

The hook design on the magazine is common for pocket holsters for pistols/revolvers.

Few additional info…

  • I’ve been carrying 15rds and 16rds magazines in NeoMag and neither one ever slipped out from the magnet.
  • you will need to adjust your reload techniques, because you can use only two fingers to pull the magazine from the pocket, so you do not have mag in the palm of your hand… but it’s not really complicated and doesn’t slow down reloads
  • I got so used to it that I don’t want to use classic mag carriers anymore

Thanks everyone. I just ordered two of them. One with the regular clip and one with the extended clip to see which one works better for me.

Is there a problem?

Yea it just looks kinda dumb hanging there IMO that’s all, and cumbersome. So I guess if you wanna phrase it as a “ problem “ there it is
Do you have to wear pleated slacks with it? That could make it look like the devil in a nightshirt
