Welcome @John211, glad you’re here. Sounds like you handled it exactly right.
It is my understanding the reason all these companies have gone to anti-open Carry is because Billionaire Michael Bloomberg has paid off these CEOs to implement these policies. According to one of the channels I view on YouTube run by Jared his channel is Guns & Gadgets he does a great amount of research before he releases information and data. Bloomberg’s Every town for gun safety and Mom’s against Guns has been paying out millions of dollars to these corporate CEOs who implement the anti Second Amendment policies in his vial attempt to bring down our Second Amendment. Please check this out for yourself Jared is a good guy again the channel on YouTube is Guns & Gadgets.
George Soros has spent hundreds of millions of dollars on his own anti gun campaign.
Yupp yes he has @WildRose
Another part of this Walmart story is, Walmart handed the guy a form to sign. I would never have signed it. The cops said he had done nothing wrong. So he is not under arrest or being detained. In fact the video shows them handing him is gun back. Simply leave the items and walk out. The items in the store are not that important. You can get them somewhere else. Walmart can’t stop you , you didn’t steel anything, and the most the cops could do is walk out with you. Then get into your vehicle and go somewhere more friendly.
@John211 Best to go with where the retailer appreciates your business. Walmart customer’s aren’t appreciated they’re an inconvenience a necessary evil I’m thinking. Personally I use Amazon.com it’s less expensive, I don’t have to deal with rude cashiers, screaming out of control kids, huge holiday crowds, and bonus Amazon delivery to my door.
When I responded to you earlier I forgot to thank you for standing up to Walmart for our gun rights, I hope all gun owners do the same! Thank You again!
You are correct ! Most of the time you can’t get help in Walmart. And the guy in the video stated he was waiting for help. I do use Amazon as much as I can for the same reasons. However, I live in the country. It’s a 25 mile trip, one way to get groceries. There are very few choices for groceries unless I drive another 30 miles. Even with that several other store are following Walmart’s lead. I didn’t go into Walmart with the intention of starting trouble or drawing attention to myself. I was dressed in jeans and T shirt. No pro gun shirt or hat. Simply doing what the law here says I can do. In some states, Walmart may find it easier to deal with because of the laws there. But here there are no laws stating what sign to post. Only signs used here are the simple symbol sign, no guns allowed. Walmart has a nation wide problem that changes from state to state.
Wow John, you have a few challenges there being a distance from everything.
I can vouch for distance traveling from the country. I live 30 miles from where I work, that same town has the “local” grocery store, a dollar general and a family dollar.
Now you can’t get everything you need at dollar general or family dollar, and a remote grocery store has to pay a lot more in shipping, so their prices are often inflated just to cover that. It’s an extra 30 miles to the next town, it has a Walmart and a Save-A-Lot. Walmart ran the other grocery stores out. Save-A-Lot is ok, but usually falls short, with their budget brands often being borderline tasteless.
And that doesn’t cover when you need to replace clothing…
I don’t think anyone wants to go hungry, I appreciate that you’re doing the best you can! I’m a big guy I found that amazon has jeans & sneakers my size at really good prices, I’m a prime member so I get 2 day free shipping, I don’t know if this helps?
I was just illustrating that there are still reasons some go to Walmart. I heard on the west end of the U.P. Walmart drove out pretty much all its competitors, unless those folks want to drive a hundred miles or so they’re pretty SOL.
For emergency purchases, definitely, @Spence. But I’ve started planning out my household needs so I can order them online instead of going to Walmart or Target.
I never open carry anywhere, a necessary precaution. I never really liked Wal-Mart… I appreciated their prices. But, there are alternatives like Dollar General & Family Dollar.
It has now been some time since Walmart announced their new policy. I have been looking for any signs being posted at the stores or any new statements. So far I do not see anything posted at the doors of the store and I have not seen, or cannot find a new statement from Walmart. This morning I called my local Walmart. I was given the same answer as before. They will ask you to leave your gun in your vehicle, but this is a request, and you can refuse. That is, depending on your state laws. If you live in a state that allows open carry they will not force you to leave the store. At lest that is what I was told over the phone. I have only tested this once. Mostly I am concealed carrying. But this time of year in Louisiana, you may start of with a light jacket and later when it warms up, off it comes. Then if I go inside somewhere, I am open carrying. For me, I carry OWB. It’s just more comfortable and easier.
We haven’t seen any signs go up in MO either.
No signs have been posted here either.
I have openly carry my Handgun in Walmart for the past 7 years with absolutely No problems.
In my opinion it’s absolutely ridiculous Walmart took a political stance by joining every town for gun safety. I have not been to Walmart Sense.
At this point I think they set up a fuss about asking customers to not OC so they could test the water… and to give themselves something to point to when they want a particular customer excused from the store. Maybe based on feedback from folks like us about not shopping with them, or maybe because they’ve rethought their position, it looks like they’re quietly stepping away from their previous statement. They’re clearly not changing their public position though.

Update: The Cookeville, Tn store now has a sign that reads please refrain from open carrying firearm in store. It doesn’t have Tn code for any restrictions on carrying.
