I think you may have misinterpreted my point(s), or I didn’t express myself well. We are fundamentally aligned. I’ll try again…
Most people dont ‘need’ most of what they have… who are you (anyone) to tell me what I should be able to have based just on ‘your’ opinions (1000 hp car, scary looking weapon automatic or not, or anything else)…
The point on ‘spray and pray’ is that without appropriate discipline an automatic weapon is no more ‘effective’ than even an everyday object like a motor vehicle weaponized by someone intent in doing evil. (And that one well aimed shot is typically more effective at eliminating the threat then a full mag on auto - not that you always have the luxury of a well aimed shot)
As a younger man when a know nothing would start to spout off about ‘semi-automatic’ weapons not being necessary or being ‘too dangerous’ I would most often say…‘tell you what. How about we give you a fully automatic weapon and I’ll crawl into the bushes with my bolt action .22 and we can see which is more dangerous…’ typically they would give a wide eyed WTF look and I would then remind them…‘it ain’t the gun, it’s the person and 2A isn’t there to protect citizens ability to harvest squirrels’
Today, I’m more likely to inquire as to if they have any experience with the things they are pretending to be an expert on, ask them why the locations with the most stringent gun regulations tend to have the highest crime rates, and remind them that if their children really are the most important things in their life why then are they actually arguing to send them to a place that has literally no protection for them (especially in today’s world when you know there are people intent on destroying your country, way of life, and you)
