Magazine max for ccw in california

How many mags can you carry with your CCW in California?

Hmmm interesting question :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

I know there’s a limit to number of loaded handguns you can carry.
You may list three but can only carry two at a time.
You only have two hands, haven’t you?

Mags?
Don’t be giving any ideas to our tyrants in Sacramento. :rage:

The only state that limits how many pistols you can carry is New Mexico, though CA has the county to county variances where your county may have its own special restrictions.

Questions like this are best directed to the permit issuing authority for your specific county. I do not believe there is any state law on the matter of number of pistols or mags in CA

@JOSE_ERICSON Welcome to the community! Well, if the new law is now you can only have a magazine of no more than 10 rnds on your firearm, and there was nothing brought in to law as to how many magazines you can possess, then carry spares as long as they are 10 rnd magazines. You may want to look into California gun law just to be sure there isn’t any prohibited additional extra magazines that a person can carry on their person besides the one in the firearm, but I doubt that there is anything that states that.

To my knowledge the only similar such law was, at one time (not anymore), D.C. limited the total number of rounds a person could carry.

Looked it up. Previously they allowed only one reload or 20 rounds in addition to a 10 round magazine max, but no longer a thing

But that old D.C. law is the only one of that nature I am familiar with

Here in NM, we’re still not out of the woods YET, but we still have our regular magazine limit that comes with whatever the firearm/rifle comes with, but be assured, with the next upcoming Legislation, the anti-gun grabbers will be at it again, and hopefully without success. Just can’t get rid of these leeches/fleas/ticks!

As soon a the new CA Gun Law compendium comes out I will look it up and see if I can find a limit on the number of mags one can carry. I have never heard a limit mentioned, but that doesn’t mean there is one. I won’t discuss my personal belief in a public forum. Don’t want to give anyone ideas.

As many as you want just no more than 10 rounds in each magazine, i hope this helps you and the magazines can hold no more than 10 rounds

Wow, That does not sound like California, I thought you had to bury magazines in the backyard that were over 5 rounds and your carry pistol had to always be unloaded. :grinning:

Last I was aware CA does not have a limit on the number of magazines a person can carry as long as they hold 10 rounds or less. But it is just about impossible to keep up with all of CA’s anti self defense laws since they add so many new ones every year.

One thing to be aware of in CA is that just because there isn’t a law against something doesn’t mean that the anti self defense LEOs and prosecutors won’t arrest, charge and even prosecute you for actions they perceive to be outside of their unpredictably broad interpretations of the law. In many counties and municipalities in CA you are guilty until proven innocent when it comes to taking actions to defend yourself and your family. Though commit assault or armed robbery in many of those same places and you are allowed to walk out the door after the briefest of detentions.

You may, at the moment, be legally allowed to carry as many spare magazines as you want in the increasingly limited number of places CA allows you to carry a firearm. But if an anti self defense LEO notices you carrying more than they feel you should you will likely face some unwanted attention and potentially even some misapplied criminal charges.

I have to agree 100%. Any LEO can arrest and have you booked. The DA may file charges which are later dismissed at arraignment or on the day of trial. Unless you hire a lawyer to have your record expunged, the arrest will stay on your record. Unless you have insurance like USCCA, you have to foot the bill for a criminal attorney to represent you. Don’t think you can represent yourself. The old saying, “An attorney who represents himself has a fool for a client,” applies to non-lawyers too. In criminal court you need an experienced criminal trial lawyer. You don’t need the nice neighbor down the street who has a general law practice and does everything from wills to divorces and adoptions. If the best you can do is the public defender, you will not be badly represented. However, they are badly over booked and you will not get a lot of hand holding from the PD’s office. I worked as a court reporter for 25+ years and have seen a lot in court. That includes the lawyers where I thought “He passed the bar exam. I’m not doing anything this weekend. I think I will take it. If he passed it any idiot can pass it.”

Right! I am just loving the new Firearms Tax here in CA., on top of sales tax that is going into a nothing account for a department or agency that only exists on paper. I wonder which account in the Bahamas that money is getting funneled into? Yes, dont give them any more dumb ideas.

That would depend on where you were a Stenographer. In CA and a handful of other States you can challenge the BAR Exam without attending law school or having the Juris Doctor (JD) degree. Its a 16 hour exam over the course of 2 days plus MBE (Multi-State BAR Exam) derivitaves if you applied, covering 17 subjects or topics of law plus your 100 essays / I.R.A.C.'s. It is defanately nightmare fuel. Cheers!

It most definitely can’t really be that hard if you could see some of the folk who have passed it.
