M&P Compact Vs. P365 XL

This is probably what I’ll do tbh. The ergos feel the same on every M&P to me. The sig wasn’t bad though, it’s just M&P feels like home. I really would like to get a compact frame 9mm (I love my shield 45 but 45 kills my bank :joy::rofl:).

From my experience, I’ve owned and shot both. I was infatuated when the P365 XL-to have a subcompact with out of the box optic capability got me plus it is a Sig Sauer. Then I went and discovered the S&W M&P 2.0 9mm compact with the 4" barrel. For me, like the infamous Glock 19 they both shoot very well. The S&W does fit me better, however. I sold my XL and my Glock 19 and purchased another M&P with the 5" barrel. No doubt red dot optics on a handgun is the wave of the future BUT not necessary for my application of concealed carry. I do like iron sights on my handguns I conceal and I do like to practice point shooting (less than 5 yards) as well. For me when it comes to the polymers I like the S&W M&Ps. That’s just me. I would recommend if you can go rent one if you can or both (XL and the M&P) shoot them and decide for yourself. Any gun that fits you and you shoot well with it is a good choice. Have fun.

I have one of these as well. You ever try to conceal carry it?

I wish I would have got the full size with the smaller barrel simply because the barrel length makes it hard. That being said, I didn’t really purchase it to carry. Thought it was cool (still do) that it went through the military arms testing to replace the 92fs

Yep I can conceal it without standing out. For me to be able to conceal my requirement is I need to carry and be the most unassuming person when out and about. Just another face in the crowd. It is sad I can’t conceal a Mossberg 590A1-I can’t for the life of me conceal the bayonet attached to it. hahahaha. If you like the 5" you will like the 4".

I’m just the opposite with my carry. Longer barrel isn’t a problem concealing but grip length is. The 365XL or the M&P are just about right for appendix carry for me.

Usually barrel length is not a conceal issue. Personally, I think 4” would be ideal. Easy to conceal, better site radius, and good velocity. The M&P 5” is just an overall big gun for me personally. It has an extra 3/4” on the regular M&P full size. That being said, people conceal carry full size 1911s all the time. :man_shrugging:t2:. It also doesn’t have as much after market support as I’d like. Great gun though. I bought an OWB holster. I’d be able to conceal carry it more comfortably if it didn’t poke out under most of my shirts. It’s my go to HD gun.

As an Instructor and retired Fed, I have the P365XL, The Hellcat, the S&W EZ Perf Center, the G43 and Walther plus others. All have some features I like but all have features I don’t like! Some can be improved at cost, read to the end for my perfect all factory gun.

Rank #1 Hellcat - My first Springfield! Most accurate, great factory sights BUT harder spring on slide than any other. When pulling slide to release doesn’t move but a HAIR, tough. I also don’t like the slide ribs, too shallow to grip if hand is dirty or oily. I may look into laser etching or a replacement slide. Mag well is beveled. I like that if you get the Optics Ready model the rear sight is NOT on the plate but stays on the gun with plate removed. I need an extended mag drop on this also.

Rank #2 high cap. - Sig P365XL, don’t get it with the Romeo Zero, loses point of aim everytime you change the battery because it has to be removed and you really cannot see the rear indent if the battery fails, I ordered a new rear sight plate but it’s on backorder. NO rear sight if you have the Romeo Zero optics ready model! They should give BOTH with the XL that comes with the RZ. I need to change the mag drop to an extended, and the slide stop release in wrong place causes you to change grip, or u have to use the tip of the side of your thumb instead of the thumb knuckle. Mag well is beveled.

Rank # 2 but low capacity - M&P 2.0 EZ Performance Center- I’m not a S&W semiauto fan and Got this for my weak elderly students BUT the grip safety is all wrongly engineered, sticks out too far, requires a larger grip and pinches the web of your hand, and won’t go in all the way flush, But my son the engineer has already developed a replacement that is perfect, goes flush. Almost PERFECT now! But the Perf Ctr made the mag release TOO sensitive, barely rub it and it drops NOT good in a stressful encounter. I’ve called and FB Smith, they don’t care. I’ll get another mag release and fix it myself, then perfect ! Not a striker fired but has a paddle under the slide.

#4 Glock 43 - not for my large hands, maybe the 43X if I get to try one. But on this 43 the mag would NOT drop free when empty, definitely not when loaded. a NOGO for me. ALL others had metal mags and dropped free every time. Mag well NOT beveled. And I’m a glock guy!!

Now for the Piece de Resistance that no one wants to hear about!
My #1!!! OK not quite as compact, a little wider but try the Walther PPQ compact! It’s my perfect gun. Perfect factory trigger, reset, sights, slide release and mag drop!!! but mag well not beveled.

Thanks for the read!
