LA Times posts poll results - do you agree?

Hey Victor10, The whole point of the debate is how to control gun violence, not gun accidents. Different topic. Regardless of the particulars of licensing requirements, does that have any bearing on mass shooters or even common criminal thugs? I don’t know, but I would like to see, stats on licensed carriers who commit gun crimes in states where there are no safety class requirements. I’ll bet the numbers are almost nill.

Yes I agree, sir. Training is a great time for me for growth, sometimes working with others, and

I wish they would leave our 2A Rights and leave the rest of the Constitution alone too. I sincerely

hope that we all can come to an agreement. Misinterpretations of our rights are a large and out

of control problem. Maybe we need a re-education in Government and The Constitution of the

United States too.

“Gun Violence” is a political term, a feel good term for politicians who play people such as Billionaire Michael Bloomberg’s group for stroking the mans’ ego. And plotting to make his play to get everyone’ Guns. His evil plot will never happen because there’s millions and millions of people who believe in protecting themselves and families. Guys like him, have an army of former police around him. These people and most all politicians, certainly US politicians (by US Politicians I mean Federal; not your State Politicians)have no interest in stopping “gun violence” they love it. If they did not then their stooges in the Fourth Branch of Government (The compliant Main Stream Media) wouldn’t make predetermined judgements as to what happening while the crime scene is unfolding before it’s even over. Laying blame with, predictably #1 All law abiding gun owners; #2 National Rifle Association. And not ever touching the individual who possibly had a crappy life, has a history of mental health problems, drug use, and a myriad an entire spectrum of other problems. But their Gun Violence, their Dog Whistle is their call to action so they can do what their leaders instruct them to do.

They are nearly zero, and anyone who was really serious can check Federal Bureau of Investigation data. The facts are public record.

In another thread someplace I suggested we should have a mandatory must pass gun safety class in our schools. Many thought it was not a good idea for one reason or another

I am not talking about shooting a weapon (maybe in an advanced elective class with parental consent). They would not even have to touch an actual weapon. There are plenty of training materials out there and NOW we know anyone that may buy a weapon legally has had at least the basic safety training.

And I still think it is a good idea.

Problem with polls is you can guarantee the result you want in many ways.

Problem with mandated training or licenses is those things will become weaponized by anti gun anti 2A folks by making them cost prohibitive. Or unduly time consuming.

I remember reading your posting, if not mistaken I think it was in the early Spring. I think I fortified yours by adding that some Chicago Public Schools had .22 cal rifle ranges in their basements and NRA instructors for proper training, safety, and handling techniques back in the 1950’s and very early 1960’s. Reflecting back they may have been doing what they thought best in getting us mentally prepared to go fight the Vietnam War, but who knows what they were thinking?

Yes! Let’s have a National Gun Registry! That way the Feds will know who legally own guns so they can confiscate them!

I live in a Constitutional state, I voted no and I’m thinking of my family, No ONE has the authority to demand anything! I got training because it is the smart thing to do. Driving a car is a privilege not a right! Any required tax, registration, permit, license or investigation is an Unconstitutional infringement. I do think that back ground checks are a good idea, but they fall far short of stopping criminals from obtaining firearms. I am sick and tired of the thousands of lawful firearms owners being blamed for the actions of deranged criminals. I am sick of fabricated terms like, assault weapon, loop hole, and most recently, Military Style weapons. If a Military style weapon had been used in El Paso, there would have closer to a hundred dead instead of 23. I am also tired of firearms owners adding to the fearful ignorance being used to destroy our rights.

Im all for the Training but as for Government stuff no thank you . I have never been a fan of open carry to many things can go wrong

The RIGHT of self defense is significantly different than the PRIVILEGE of driving a car. I can defend myself with a pencil, a rolled magazine, a fork, a rock, etc. By your logic I must demonstrate proficiency before being allowed to own any of them.

@GREG12 President Ronald Regan quote comes to mind “Government is not the solution to the problem, Government is the problem “
That guy is young and believes in big bloated government sadly.

I’m going to get a lot of flak for this. I think a license should be given after a person has a background check, AND passes a psychiatric test paid for by the person applying. These senseless killings have got to be stopped. People are bringing all these rules and laws onto themselves.

“We” have not committed any senseless killings, so how are we bringing it into ourselves?

Not all CCW (nation wide) are two part… some states only require a class or demonstrated “proficiency” (range time only) for CCW license…

And some require no training/proficiency test at all.

Some of these polls I’m really skeptical of. While I was watching the last democratic debate they kept throwing numbers like “even 90% of gun owners think we should have ____” and I couldn’t help but think… not a single one of the gun owners I know would approve of that, and half the liberals I know wouldn’t either. So who/where are they getting these poll results from?

Polls are hogwash. That said; I’m surprised that the simplest of all answers was not offered. SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED! Regulations, requirements, etc… infringe the daylights out of the 2nd Amendment. The reason we carry is for safety.

I’m kinda curious to who the Times was polling and to which part of the country or state it was conducted. Because the percentage seemed kinda high as to the questions that was asked. But by all means don’t get me wrong. I’m all for additional training! The more the better! Whether on your own property with a proficient friend or at a public range that offers classroom and range time instructor training($$$). But I don’t think it should be mandatory for a person to buy and own a weapon. Myself I’ve handle guns since an early age and I consider myself very astute on the handling and carrying and my state laws on use in a defensive manner. But I also will take professional courses to add to my experience as time and funds allow. This is my personal decision that should be left to the individual.
