After reading a recent home defense issue of Concealed Carry magazine, I started thinking more seriously about my personal situation. I’m somewhat unique in that when I am sleeping, I am virtually deaf. What hearing I do have I will lose within the next year with my second Cochlear Implant. I have security cameras around the house, and during the day I can monitor or get alerts if anyone crosses their field of view. At night though, someone could break in, and I wouldn’t know until they stuck a gun my face.
There must be others that face a similar situation and I’m wondering how they resolved this situation. I do have fire alarms with lights, but currently nothing in the way of a security system.
This may sound a little out there, but I’ve heard of rings and bracelets that can alert you to a multitude of things!
I know it sounds like a late night TV commercial, but worth a second thought!
I have worked in the alarm industry for nearly 20 years, there are devices that can be installed for such a situation.
Yes you could go with a smart watch that would alert you, there are strobes and “bed shakers” (you read that correctly) that work as well. It is best to get with a local knowledgeable rep to discuss your best options
Hope this helps
You enable camera app notification on your watch and whenever “alarm” is triggered the vibration on the watch is enough to wake me up and force me check my cameras on the phone.
I’m thinking about going with an alarm system. I don’t currently have one, but the little research I’ve done so far hasn’t shown any type of hearing-impaired solutions. Maybe too much of a niche to openly advertise.
I do have a bed shaker alarm. Can’t hear a normal one or hotel wake up calls. It’s also nice for not waking the wife on early mornings.
