If your home alarm is disabled how am I going to get to my gun in time?

How about a dog?

Not keeping your HD item within arms reach is like parking your car on the next lot over from your driveway.

I have a battery operated alarm on the door just like the ding bells at the convenient stores that anytime the door opens it sounds off. I would suggest to actually to carry, even at home.

Long time ago I went to a Radio Shack and bought some alarms gear like a motion detector and a infrared beam all were ac driven with a battery backup it work really well for that time and house. The motion detector when someone picked up something it would sound like a high pitch wail , and when the infrared beam was broken a siren would wail loud enough for the intruder to be distracted enough so I could be armed and ready, now I have my home alarm with camera’s all around the house that has a battery backup too. I still have my Radio Shack gear and primary used now in the garage with a clicker for on and off, now there are different things you can get many such thing in many stores or Amazon.com just look at your situation and see what would work for you, remember it not going to stop a determined bad person from coming in you want the time delay so you can armed and ready

To each his own an your choice and decision. I personally at all times no more then a 3 ft reach from my protection and safety. Some call me paranoid scared or what ever.but at anytime 24 /7 im prepaired for it. But then again try and get past the dogs then you’ve already alerted us somethings not right my edc and phone are ready. But that how we do it,not everyone is that prepaired so I’ve seen several good ideas here choose what works for you and form a game plan for every person in your home wether its be a look out the person on the phone or the person stopping the threat.

All the alarm does is give you notice. It doesn’t guarantee that you’ll make it from wherever you are to wherever your firearm is in time to be able to use it effectively.

An alarm is one way to know about an intruder, but there are several others as have been mentioned above. Dogs are great, even a teeny tiny dog is a great alarm system. There are other electronics you can put on entryways that aren’t tied to an alarm system. Motion detection lights (at night), cameras, etc. Even a simple cow bell tied on every door is useful.

Getting to your firearm in time is only a calculation of how close is your firearm when you find out there is an intruder. Having the firearm really close or having a lot of notice (or both!) will increase your odds. Give yourself the best odds by having multiple layers of “notification” and having your firearm nearby either by house carry or staging safely around the house.
