Illinois FOID Card PURPOSELY DENIED RENEWAL because CCW valid?

I known people who had your situation here in The Peoples Socialist Republic of Illinois. Your good for carrying, just a hassle explaining to shops that are leary.

My wife grew up in Illinois I even considered moving there when we first got together her dad started explaining to me the firearm laws I didn’t even want to travel in that state after that

We are on the same page in many respects. Our famous Governor in Illinois, has once again declared a state of emergency due to monkey-Pox, and ongoing emergency powers allow the state to continually skirt our existing rights. In Illinois, we have been on lockdown for the majority of his governorship. They seem to hold all the cards.

Thank you kindly for the response and “to-do” list. This is excellent advice!

Welcome back to the community @deranged

It was funny to see the message saying that it’s been a while since you posted.

It’s been a while since we’ve seen deranged

My immediate thought was, have you looked outside lately?

Clear as mud!

I guess I will find out how long it takes to get my new CCW permit. They say to apply before it expires and it expires in April. It would not surprise me if they wait until the last day and notify me they don’t like my picture soI wait some more.

Welcome aboard @Mark614

I renewed last December not to wait till mine expired in March. Took about 40 days but the new card expires in December 2032. No date on the card but ISP portal shows the magic date. I need to renew my CCW in July and if I follow the explanation they are giving my FOID will be extended to 10 years from the CCW renewal date. Only in Illinois!

As if the Illinois FOID / CCW mess was not confusing enough I got the below from ISP

Dear GEORGE

This message is to notify you that, after reviewing our records, we believe you possess separate Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) and Concealed Carry License (CCL) cards. All who receive this message should have valid FOIDs. As a result of P.A. 102-237, individuals with a valid Concealed Carry License had their FOID expiration date extended to match the expiration of their CCL or their FOID automatically renewed along with their CCL renewal. Regardless, some of you may possess a FOID that – although valid – appears expired on its face. We understand the uncertainty this can cause.

Therefore, we are beginning to distribute replacement combined FOID/CCL cards. Expect to see yours in the coming days. We hope you will find this helpful. Note that this new, single, combination card is not a renewal, but a replacement for your current cards. Once you receive it, simply destroy your old cards. We will continue to send renewal notices for FOIDs and CCLs 180 days prior to their expiration

Oh, and by the way you will need to go to the DMV, wait in line for 2 days to make sure your CCL, DL, and FOID all match🤣

Interesting. I was told the same thing in April and have yet to receive a combined FOID/CCW.
Leave it to Illinois to make it as complicated (and expensive) as possible.
Regards!

I’m not going to hold my breath. When I look at the ISP portal my CCL expires in Dec 2023 and my FOID expires in Jan 2032. Will keep you posted if I see a new card any time soon.

I gotta tell you, the whole idea of an FOID is weird as hell to me.
