Sounds like it’s time to brush up on, understanding your right to self defense and state statutes on deadly force. Assault to the ankle is not a deadly force situation. Nor are bad words. At home I’m one pissed off SOB. Out on the streets, it’s total deescalation! Whatever it takes to go home with no holes! No matter what. There’s a motive for whatever people are doing right now and it sounds like provocation!
Nothing should be surprising to anyone anymore. My head is on a constant swivel. It makes me tired by the time I get home from any outing!

To me you have two options. One is to react and get physical with fists or hands and try to stop the threat. The second, and best option to me, now as a civilian and not a cop is try to retreat. Once at a safe dstance I would pull my firearm and while not pointing it at them, be ready should another attack come.
Under most laws (well at least back before liberal activist judges took over) , you can demonstrate that you DID retreat and try to get away. Should the person attack again, as soon as they grab, or try to grab your firearm, you are probably legally safer should you feel your life is still in danger and was forced to protect yourself. It realy depends on your physical ability to defend yourself. If you can neutralize the threat with hands, say someone much smaller, I would personally do that. If I was out sized or out manned I would resort to scenario number two. Just my thought! OH, and do NOT let the idea that it is wrong to retreat! The goal is to pick what course that will most likely keep you alive!

I understand where you’re coming from. Me I’m not so sure I want to hang my life on a “probably” nor am I going to “hope” that the cameras caught my retreat!
At the present I’m out classed, out aged and in no condition to put up a fight after two recent heart attacks!
The art of deescalation is my only means, unless and only they are prepared to die!

Scott52, i don’t disagree with you at all. Honestly I am playing the odds. I have a bad heart valve and am not as big and bad as i once was so I get it. I am just putting out some of the best scenarios i personally see as a retired cop and seeing the current political climate. i am in no way saying what i suggest is perfect!

Scott when the hooker kicked my ankle that has been put back together with screws and plates and I was screaming at the hooker and I was injured and mad . And a pet gorilla was not even making me calm down they were playing a game and I shop there all the time. They were evil .
