In the early 60’s there was a guy in Los Angeles who ran an ad in the paper for people to send him “$1 and a stamped self addressed return envelope.” He got a pretty good response until he was arrested for mail fraud.

I might see where you are having the difficulty with saving $1 million… your math. 10 * 100,000 = $1,000,000. The real problem with $1 million today is it goes far, far less than when I was a kid. It sounds like a lot until you look at what the real cost of living is. Thankfully, I have no debt and my property tax, insurance, and utilities are low.

That’s what I was talking about in the initial posting. But I have a hard time seeing mail fraud if all you do is say send me $5. You aren’t providing any service only panhandling in a more efficient manner. I could never stand at the on ramps or stop signs asking for $$. Only if times were very hard for me.
Thank you, sir; I take your points. Forgive me when I say, however, that this particular exchange was only my attempt to be droll. I am well aware of the state of the economy and the real-world purchasing power of the dollar. I, too, have only a negligible debt, and none of that owing to the vile credit card companies.
It’s been fun, even if I missed my mark.

Some folk’s get VA Pension’s/Beni’s, Some get SSD (Social Security Disability)

My neighbor across the street (dumbass extraordinaire) got Disability
for the old I hurt my back on the job trick 30 years ago. He got ‘caught’
Bringing rolls of tar paper up his ladder onto his roof! DA!
Some people are addicts and alcoholics and from volunteering I learned
you have to be Sober to enter a shelter/Detox/Rehab. People don’t want to give up the sh**.
But a lot of folk’s get m$ney from some agency or another.
That is why ‘Out here’ you see people leaving a liquor store (1st of the month usually)
with bags of booze. Some would rather sweat, stink and drink than get help.
Lastly, there are the Hardcore druggie’s (Fentanyl Crack, Heroine, etc) their minds are gone already and they are in search of the next hit (and their Graveyard). which leaves the Crazies.
They shouldn’t be out there. The Politicians many years ago to stop ‘funding’ the Rehab’s, Detox’s and Mental Institutions. So they are the ones hurting themselves and Innocents, acting out and being plain old nuts.

That’s actually really well put imo. We’ve got a lot of hard drugs in the area. For example if you look at the daily arrests the amount of meth arrests honestly blew my mind and that’s just one hardcore drug when you factor in stuff you said (fentanyl, crack, etc.) it’s pretty insane. I honestly can’t imagine getting hooked on something like that and just living for the next hit.

It was better than what was happening to me at home. But it made me a survivor, and gave me an “I don’t know how to quit” outlook on life. It’s one of the reasons I am so thankful for the military. It picked me up, dusted me off and gave me a shot at a real life.

Amen brother. My son is learning to play the stock market. He knows it’s risky and he’s being very careful. He’s in the process of building up his account. He made $1,200 yesterday. As he said, I can make more $$ doing this than working a 9-5 making minimum wage. I told him make sure you leave enough to pay taxes.

Well, that may work, but one can become rich without resorting to crime. It’s actually rather simple; not easy, but simple.
Ready? Here we go: Everyday, everything you do, say, think has to revolve around profit. Everything must either make you a profit or help you move into a position to make a profit. That’s it. Set your own moral/ethical/personal boundaries, but that’s it. Anything else comes second to profit, including family, home, friends, community, church, entertainment, enjoyment, etc. Profit first.
