This kid got shot 14 times and lived. They didn’t say what the repeat felon that had just been released from a Federal prison was carrying. Makes me wonder, my EDC has 7 plus a 7 round spar magazine, do I have enough?
Since the guy wasnt shooting back, its apples to oranges for a victim whos carrying.
I wouldnt sweat it. Obviously, the bad guy wasnt a good shot.
Practice and trust your gear.
Definitely not enough. It’s never enough!
On my body 24 rounds .45 ACP
Extra ( no such thing as extra ), additional 100 in the car!
AMEN!!!
17 + 1 in my sidearm, two 17-round mags on my hip, two more in my laptop bag I carry every day. Seven 30-round happy sticks and a 50-round drum in the truck with my PCC. About a thousand more rounds in bags, boxes, cans in the truck. All 9mm and all mags/drums fit my sidearm and my PCC.
Why so much just in the truck? Because, and YES, I am expecting a war.
You’re short and fat, and I’ve got more friends.
Had to do that, Brother. Just pokin’ fun.
.45 ACP won two world wars.
I used to carry 10+1, with 2 10rd spare mags.
Now I carry 17+1, with 1 17rd spare. Slightly less capacity in total, but hopefully enough and more convenient.
Depends on shot placement and caliber
I have two carry one 8+1 2nd 18+1 switch between the two 1st 45ACP 2nd 9mm both full size
If the shot is deliberately placed, 1, as in one. If you’re a hunter you’re probably well aware that a second shot is rarely possible, so it’s best be one shot, one kill. Same for self defense. This story is definitely not about a deliberate well placed shot. Depending on the circumstances time is of the essence, so how you practice will determine your success. I get a tickle out of some drills like, if I have this right, Mozambique drill. 2 to the torso then one to the head. I say, if you’re in range, start with 1 to the head and save the 2 rounds and a lot of time. How about, again if you’re in range, 1 to the throat with the aim at the spinal column. Kinda like bowling; hitting any pin is not good enough, you’re going for the strike, not the spare. Now, not in any way putting capacities or what you carry in question. But I think we’ll all agree that if each round hits its mark, whatever you carry will be much more effective in dealing with whatever situation you find yourself in.
I’m okay with 10+1, plus 2 10 rounds mags in 45.
Also, the throat shot for the spinal cord even if your off midline for the spinal cord either left or right you get the carotid artery and the jugular veins. The arteries supply the brain with blood and are large vessels so not as fast taking out the spinal cord it’s going mess up the thought process fairly fast. Again, it’s up to shot placement quality over quantity. From working in a trauma center background seen head shots with a single 22 caliber it penetrated the skull but didn’t have an enough velocity to exit since the brain is soft tissue all the bullet did was ricochet inside the skull tearing up the brain and blood vessels. About the same as 25 cal., it went in the chest and bounced in the chest ending in the abdomen. It basically it put a hole in about everything.
Welcome @Edward339, the Carotid Arteries are Big Time Targets in the hand to hand world. Rule of thumb 7 seconds and your opponent isn’t an opponent any more.
I’ve never heard of a shooter making a DRT shot on another human especially if it’s moving or at bad breath distances.
I think it’s why we’re taught center mass, causing as much bleed damage as possible to internal organs. Stopping the threat.
Unless you’re Chris Kyle or Mossad!
Great first post, welcome aboard!
Welcome to the community!!
Edward, good day to you & welcome to the community!
And yet, in a self-defense situation, you’re far more likely to miss a delicate shot placement than not.
I would never count on accuracy over capacity when it matters.
Welcome, don’t believe in head or throat shots myself center mass double tap. Just my personal opinion
So here’s a thought.
It’s 10:00 pm and you’re filling up your tank in a lonely gas station off the highway. Out of the shadows 4-5 guys show up with obvious bad intentions, let’s say they are visibly armed. Now how do you feel about your load out.
Many think they’ll be able to do 5 perfectly executed shots and wait for the cops to arrive and clean up the bodies.
Me I’m going to empty my 15 round magazine as fast as I can in their general direction (shock’n awe), reload, jump in my car letting THEM sort out who’s still able to walk or breathing and I’ll call 911 and the USCCA as soon as I’m safely away from the threat.
I first must say don’t go stupid places and do stupid things with stupid people. This raises your chances of being shot 14 times drastically.
As to the question. How efficient and effective you are with rounds carried often is the greatest determining factor.
Sometimes stupid places, stupid stuff and stupid people come to you. No one is safe anywhere 100% of the time regardless of where you are.
Act accordingly and seek your own level of satisfaction in your preparedness level, both in skills and kit.
The statement that should define this thread right here.
I can shoot, and I’m still not going out with just a handful of cartridges anywhere. It’s not that kind of country anymore.
That’s a big factor. I’m sitting here in my office, in business dress clothes, at my company which has a note in the employee handbook that weapons of all types are prohibited. So, in order to stay discreet, all I have is my little 5 shot J frame in my pocket. There’s a speed strip in my computer bag, and another handful of them in my truck glove box, but that’s all I’ve got. Having said that, after the day is done, I’ll drive straight home through a nice area, and go inside and put on my home clothes, which includes an OWB holster and pistol. If a little 5 shot J frame is all I can totally conceal, it’s better than nothing, and I can shoot it very well. Still, no way I’d be caught in a dark lonely gas station at night, with any pistol, if I could possibly avoid it, and I would feel very under-gunned with just my j frame.
