While I have a VA permit, I fully consider the Constitution to be the only permit we truly require and all others are unconstitutional… and we only deal with it to avoid legal hassles.
VA is accepted in any state I currently have any need to be in.

Have mine from MO and it gives me 38 states.
NY
PA
FL
That gets me a lot.
Some thoughts.
NY cost me $140 for a hunting/range only permit which took 9 months and they would have held it longer but I knew the Sheriff and Under Sheriff at the time. Had they known I applied It would have been 2 months! I had to take a $125 day long CCP course and write the judge a nice letter explaining that I knew the laws and nicely give a reason or reason why I wanted the CCP.
PA was $20 and an instant background check because I already had my NY concealed carry permit.
FL was $55. I did it online, submitted my NY & PA permits with the fingerprints and it took about 2 months.
NY is dumb and expensive! After many complaints they were forced to get the process to 2 months which is what it took for my wife’s.
I have Michigan and am working on getting Arizona and Florida due to reciprocity fears from my Michigan CPL.
@Brian139
What fears? We have the highest reciprocity in the country, 39 States. Arizona has the exact same reciprocity we do, and I believe Florida does too?
The only one I have is Texas, but I love it here and don’t need to go anywhere else. No offense to the other 49 states.
My fears are due to the letter from the ATF to all Michigan FFL’s that the Michigan CPL is no longer able to be used in place of the NICS check. I worry that the ATF findings that led to this decision may be seen by other states as a deficiency and lead to other states canceling their reciprocity.
That ruling is being challenged in Court, I think GoA is leading that fight. I wouldn’t give in to fear just yet. That being said, getting a license from another state does have other benefits for us!
Not giving in to fear, just being real about it and want to make sure that I am legally able to continue to carry when I travel. I know there is a lawsuit, but we are a long way from conclusion. Plus, if you look at the lawsuit compared to the ATF findings, MPS was potentially violating its own laws in the issuance of CPL’s.
I have a Resident NC, and a Non-resident VA. I had the VA one first, but it’s unnecessary now, since I believe they both cover the same states…or at least the ones I travel in.
My current CCW permits are “California,” “Utah,” and “Florida.” I used to have a “Massachusetts” CCW, which I miss. (But then again, I rarely go to New England anymore.
I have two
Georgia resident
Virginia nonresident
Between them both I can carry almost everywhere
CA resident and UT non-resident seems enough for now when I go on road trips.
If I wanted to travel further east, most likely I’ll be flying naked, I mean, unarmed.
Looking for advice, I chose to obtain a CCL from Arizona over Utah. Should I have chosen Utah instead my friend?
For maximum state CCL permit reciprocity out west, does an Arizona permit cover more states or have an advantage than does a Utah permit or vice versa?
Since I didn’t have any plans as yet to travel to an eastern state, I didn’t apply for a Florida permit. I chose Arizona over Utah. However, I wonder if that was the best choice; for when I’m due for renewal. I heard that for maximum reciprocity, Arizona or Utah, and Florida permits offer the most coverage, and if one does not yet have those permits, to apply now, so that once Spring and “April 2021” arrive, one has more coverage.
I understand that Florida helps obtain CCL coverage in the eastern U.S. states.
Thanks.
I recently retired and moved to Arkansas from Florida. I have a Florida permit and I am in the process of obtaining an Arkansas permit. On the application it states that I have to send in my Florida license and that they will keep on file but I want to keep it as well. Does anyone know the procedure to keep both licenses. I already notified Florida that I moved out of state.
Thanks for any advise
Country wide lifetime permit with yearly quals. I’m jelly
Welcome to the family and god bless you.
I just have my Texas resident one at the moment but I have been researching other states that issue non-resident permits that could cover states that Texas doesn’t cover. Michigan is one I was looking into because it would allow me to carry in Washington State but they don’t issue non-resident unless you’re active duty military and are stationed there from what I read
@Burdo as far as non resident permits go for the both… They only have 1 difference.
AZ non res will be accepted in New Mexico, Utah will not
UT non res will be accepted in WA, Arizona will not
If you have a Resident Conceal carry
residential permits have same difference as non res with 1 exception that I am spotting from a side by side comparison
AZ res permit will allow you to carry in South Carolina, Utah will not
Consensus
AZ res permit allows carry in SC
AZ non res permit allows carry in NM
Utah res or non res allows carry in WA
so which state do you travel in more or wish to travel? Washington or New Mexico?
Forida non res holds no value over AZ from what I can see… they are pretty much the exact same thing but with a “handgun” only restriction making the Florida permit less value than AZ or Utah except allowance of Florida carry
