If everyone had at least three guns, a handgun, a shotgun, and an AR it would not be right. You still need a black powder, a 22, and a lever action. Since all AR are not the same, a variety of AR’s will be required. 5.56, 300 Blackout, 50 Cal Beowulf. Then with shotguns, 12 gauge is good but a 410 and a 20 gauge should be available. Then you might consider a pump and a semiauto shotgun. Or even a nice break down shotgun. Handguns, well there we go! You will need a revolver, semiauto, and a single shot.
Don’t forget about some long range precision too. Something in the 1/2 to 1 mile range, maybe even 2 miles. And probably both short action and long action.
Her premise is faulty. “Need” need not be considered.
Who needs more than 2500 calories?
Who needs more than a thousand square foot house?
Who needs to take a cruise?
Who needs 2 children?
Who needs money in their IRA?
Where does it end?
Well… I’m not sure what normal is, but ever since I bought my first gun, my safe’s been full, my wallet’s been empty, and I’ve started talking about my nightstand drawer as the “armory annex.” So I guess my answer to the original question here is always going to be “one more than whatever I currently have”
What’s normal for a hunter? What’s normal for a rancher or a farmer? What’s normal for a shop keeper or banker? What’s normal for a n officer or criminal defense attorney? Or a homeowner? What’s normal for a college student or apartment dweller? Or a Historical reenactor?
What’s normal for a terrorist? Or psychopath? Or a gang banger?
The sobriquet Normal is a slippery slope at best.
“Normal” as a group descriptor, doesn’t actually exist, just like other ambiguous terms such as “average” and “typical”. These terms can be a convenient verbal shorthand but they don’t convey any useful information which can be applied to a specific situation.
I have often found the term “not normal” to be used as a pejorative against anyone who falls outside of the speaker’s expectation of how everyone else should behave/speak/act/dress/think/believe/etc.. What an individual describes as “normal” is really just a mental defense against the unwanted or unexpected; an excuse to ignore or vilify the behavior of others while at the same time justifying their own.
