Fanny packs, a yay or nah?

It’s not a purse, it’s European!

Es ist keine Geldbörse, es ist europäisch! Es ist eine Bauchtasche!

I’ve never carried in a fanny pack, but it’s a viable option, IMHO. As far as gray man, people are strange. Very little sticks out any more in all the weirdness.

I was in Washington, DC last year. I carried a tactical looking backpack through multiple security checks at the Smithsonian’s, etc. (obviously no gun, pointy things, etc.) I never got a second look. I saw a man with a family carrying a tactical looking bag. I noticed, but seriously doubt that meant he had a firearm. I see more and more tactical looking stuff with mole webbing, etc. it’s becoming mainstream.

I have a Maxpedition Neatfreak tactical “man purse.” I’ve carried in it on very rare occasions. I often take it when traveling to store my gun in overnight.

Vertx is a viable option for gray man, off body carry. Maxpedition is making more and more gray man stuff all the time. Both brands are fantastic and I have multiple pieces.

If @ScottGaran wants to rock a fanny pack, I say rock on! Certainly better than leaving it at home.

Sinbad, that was actually part of my point. Before I got this one, I would sometimes go to the store and realizing I had to put on a belly band or shoulder holster would say screw it. What are the odds. While not perfect, it is convenient and if SHTF something is better than nothing. Thanks.

Just bought the SOCP Tactical Fanny pack from Vertx. So far, the only problem I’m having is finding a holster I like that’s compatible with it.

Right now I’m using Vertx’s tactigami MPH (full) and while it’s and will do for now, I’m still looking for something better.

I’ve worn fanny packs while traveling overseas, long flights, and a very large one for canoeing in the Boundary Waters (the larger ones for camping are often called waist packs or lumbar packs).

They are very handy, although I don’t wear one for EDC… and my friend calls my belt the “Bat Belt” because I have a few things on it for EDC.

Personally, for traveling I look for something low profile that has both the integral belt and slots on the back of the pack to allow my EDC belt to go through at the same time. My favorite travel fanny pack is a small pack that REI made (now discontinued).

I have a Viktos sling I quite like for occasional use. It has a soft-lined perfectly shaped pouch for sunglasses and room in the other compartment for a small bottle of water, some first aid, chapstick, a multi tool, hand wipes, a protein bar/candy, whatever stuff like that.

I don’t usually take it on me as I take the super immediate stuff in my pockets/belt, but if I’m going to be farther from my vehicle for longer, like going to a mall, zoo, around out and about somewhere, bag all the way

I don’t use a 'Pack (shoulder/Butt)
This works for me though when I go “Grey”
(File photo: Since I lost all my guns in a boating accident last year Mr. ‘G’ monitor man)

I always thought it funny people claiming to be “grey man” just look like offduty cops lol
im sorry, but being decked in 5.11, vertex, helikon tex, viktos, beyond, etc gear from head to toe might as well be a spotlight on you for people who are actually looking and know what they are looking for.

I can wear my USCCA hat and no one even pays attention. Wear a Chiefs jersey and everyone looks at me(I’m in 49er’s territory)
