Yeah, but you wouldn’t destroy anything that is living unless it was to save lives
No i most certainly have destroyed and killed using a firearm and no life was in danger.
That is illegal.
It’s certainly not illegal with the proper licenses and tags.
I realize animals taste better when dead. But if you don’t eat you will die. Isnt that why we shoot amimals to live. If we can look at it that way why don’t we?
I have killed plenty of animals and left them to rot, coyotes, feral swine, nutria the list goes on.
Do you feel guilty about it? If you don’t it is because you wanted to make life better. Normally people don’t kill just to kill. I would rather look at it in a positive optimistic way since we are pro gun and pro saving lives. Isn’t that what normal people do?
No guilt, invasive species need to be controlled. I guess you could say I protected livestock by shooting coyotes, but I have been shooting them since i was 9. When i was a kid it was to learn to do animal calls and practice shooting. Would setup in a field at dusk and call one in, shoot it, then call in another and just repeat till the sun set and just leave the corpses. Probably have killed hundreds of coyotes over my life. Feral hogs and nutria I do on my buddies Christmas tree farm, he has a large pond where nutria invade and the hogs come to drink from.
So wouldn’t it be better to promote the fact that responsibly armed Americans carry guns to save lives than to kill or murder. When it comes to animals, we have to kill them to save lives because we can not eat them alive and we kill predators to save the lives of the animals. When it comes to humans trying to murder us, we have to shoot them to stop the threat to save lives. We are not necessarily trying to kill them. The people trying to shoot us are trying to murder us. Their weapons are deadly weapons. Our weapons are for saving lives so why would we say we are carrying a deadly weapon if we are trying to save lives? The left says we have guns because we want to murder and kill. Wouldn’t it be advantageous to us if we promote the thinking of saving lives.
Definition of Deadly Weapon
Montana code § 45-2-101 defines “weapon” any instrument that is readily capable of being used to produce death or serious bodily injury, regardless of its primary function.
Interesting do they define “deadly weapon”? We should have a definition of life saving weapon. The left wouldn’t have a leg to stand on.
You don’t have to eat animals to live.
You can, and I do, but you don’t have to.
Yeah but life is so much better when you do. I stopped eating red meat for about a year a long time ago. That is a topic for another topic. I am pretty sure you will die if you don’t eat bacon.![]()
Interesting also in that I can see some agreement in that being “responsible” aspect, which I really appreciate; the “never point a firearm at anything you are not willing to destroy” sure does resonate.
I’m quite the novice hunter, I hunted three days ago, even though I was not successful in taking a game that day, the simple act of going out there gave life to me, all that walking in such beautiful nature. I heard that theory about the trees giving off chemicals which strengthen the body - I especially needed it as I was getting over a bout with pneumonia.
This does spark my interest also from a societal standpoint, in that there are factions opposing our rights to own and carry, so when such can be described as a tool, and emphasis on acting responsible, I like those concepts.
At the same time, I also appreciate taking it very serious, as it reminds me on the safety aspect, such as “muzzle discipline” and where I’m pointing, what a great reminder.
This is an old thread, but the topic of discussion is still a current argument and something I discuss with my clients quite often.
To understand why some view a firearm as a “life saving…” vs a “deadly weapon” is a direct refection on a person’s understanding of language and their willingness to see the true nature of things. Because we have heard “deadly weapon” used indiscriminately for so long, many have become ignorant of the fact that it does not represent a positive or negative action. It simply describes the true purpose of the object. Lets consider:
Deadly- causing or able to cause death
Weapon- something used to injur, defeat or destroy
“Deadly weapon” describes an item that when used in the manner and for the reasons it was created, may kill someone and therefore a weapon. Similarly, an electric chair is a deadly weapon used by the justice system to deter people from committing heinous crimes. Conversly, a hostage negotiator is a tool used by law enforcement to save lives. Now remove the human factor completely. Your gun is made to discharge projectiles at a high rate of speed and WILL cause damage to whatever the projectiles impact.
When those words are combined, it doesn’t magically change their meanings to represent a criminal act. Just because my gun was created and developed for the purpose of discharging projectiles in a forceful way, doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing. It is deadly simply because it was made to be. And when it is carried on your person for the purposes of protection, it is being used as a weapon. You can no longer call it a firearm or as the resolutly ignorant like to say, a “tool”.
This isn’t a glass half empty/full kind of thing. Its a matter of what color glasses you see through and weather you have the understanding that using your fiream in a manner in which it was intended for, may result in killing another human being.
If you have to use your firearm to protect yourself, you’re going to be thankful it is a deadly weapon because criminals have no reason to run away from tools. Deadly weapons though, well that’s a different item alltogether.
Start here
And I have to agree. If you use your weapon to kill someone, that does not mean you were being irresponsible. On the contrary, defending yourself with the use of a firearm which results in the other person being killed probably means you were very responsible with your training because you did not miss.
You are accusing the Left of twisting words and misrepresenting your actions, but you are the one who is taking plain statements and placing incorrect meaning and intention to the words.
Welcome to the community. What do you mean¿ Enjoy the ride. I think murderers think of guns as deadly weapons when they want to murder someone. Responsibly armed Americans think of them as tools to stop a imminent threat of death or grave bodily harm.
It is all part of G-d’s plan. He knows what He is doing.
