What is the definition of a dangerous or deadly weapon? I carry a gun to save lies not to kill. I don’t want anybody to die unless there is no other way to stop them from murdering me or an innocent victim. Anything can be used as a deadly weapon even a seatbelt in a car if it stops you from getting out of the car when it is on fire. I thought this would make a good topic for discussion.
AI Overview
A deadly weapon is an object that can cause death or serious bodily harm. This includes firearms, explosives, and other objects that can be used to cause harm.
Examples of deadly weapons
Firearms, such as handguns, rifles, and shotguns
Explosives, such as dynamite, nitroglycerine, and black powder
Vehicles, such as cars and boats
Tools, such as axes, hammers, and gardening tools
Rocks, such as large rocks
Animals, such as dogs that have been trained to attack humans
Biological diseases, viruses, or organisms
Deadly weapon determination
Whether an object is a deadly weapon is a question of fact that is usually left to the jury. The jury considers the object’s physical qualities, how it was used, and the injuries caused to the victim.
Deadly weapon vs. dangerous weapon
The terms “deadly weapon” and “dangerous weapon” are sometimes used interchangeably.
A firearm in a untrained persons hand can become both a dangerous weapon that can be a deadly weapon to anyone around that person. Pay for live training and practice or please do not carry a weapon in public it becomes a dangerous situation to the public.

Interesting to me in that makes us think about how we might look in court, and balancing safety with the tool we use in a SD incident. I think it’s smart to think about it and plan accordingly, I guess from a complex real world view, as we do not live in a vacuum, but the reality is courts and society affect our lives.
I know people that “that can cause death or serious bodily harm” quite handily without firearms, explosives, and other objects (such as those listed). Maybe AI isn’t all that “I” afterall.
Just a topic to get people response to. Something @Shamrock said in another topic about deadly weapon in an auto, made me think why it is called a deadly weapon? I know a gun can be used as a deadly weapon, I think they are used to save lives. Criminals use them as deadly weapons.
Any state you want. There are no wrong answers. I am trying to open your mind to realize firearms save more lives than they kill. Without good guys with guns, killing bad guys with guns they would just keep killing. It doesn’t make sense to call something that saves more lies than it kills a deadly weapon. I think we call them deadly weapons because of the media calls them deadly weapons to sensationalize it.
I’m trying to get you to understand real world reality that sometimes saving a life is done by employing lethal force and sometimes that means saving a life/lives means taking a life.
Honestly if you don’t realize and accept saving a life by shooting someone might mean taking a life, you aren’t ready to carry a gun.
Yes I realize it, since it is saving a life, shouldn’t we be calling it that? Mine is called a life-saving tool. Are we trying to scare somebody by saying it’s a deadly weapon?
Many ordinary things can be used as “deadly weapons” as we have seen recently: cars, trucks, kitchen knives, and the list goes on. Are you advocating for stricter controls on these items and/or the people that use them???
God forbid if you knew someone that was murdered by someone with a gun I could understand you calling it a deadly weapon. I hope that is not the case, if it is I am sorry for your loss and sorry I brought it up.
