Quick question. I live in the “new communist state” of Virginia and with all the games our “legislatures” are playing my gun club is setting up a mass Utah CCP class. In Virginia we could get away with being a vet as proof of weapons training. Yeah I know that’s a stretch. I was a small arms petty officer, RSO and Ordnance officer for 24 years. No Don 102 my arms are normal length now.
Question Utah states: A course of fire must be performed and passed in a range. An individual may be exempted from this test if he or she is a former or current member of the armed forces, law enforcement agency or has been through basic and advanced training courses that we recognize.
Anybody know if they’re gonna really accept military service? I hate “may.” Thanks y’all
I got my Utah while waiting for Illinois to comply with the SCOTUS order. At that time there was no question about “training”. I have renewed twice online twice since then and no training issue came up??
Thanks. I was sure there wasn’t gonna be an issue because they hold this class at every gun show and quite often at local gun clubs. Just putting out the feelers for real world knowledge.
@Kim2 Don’t we ALL hate that word “may?” But the answer to your question is, “could be” oops, same as “may”, or “might be” oops again, same as “may” All they have to say is, “Individuals “ARE” exempted…
I’m a Utah resident and have a Utah permit. 4 hours in a class room, Back ground finger prints and photo and it was done, not a single shot fired. I just renewed mine and all they wanted was the 25 bucks and a new photo…
The Florida license is very good, too, and only requires 4 hours classroom time. I think it does require a little range time, I don’t totally remember. Anyway, it was very easy to get, and has reciprocity with something like 38 states. They issue to non residents.
I got FL and UT when I lived in CT. UT required a classroom training class, basically gun law, and proof of firearms training which my CT permit provided. FL required proof of training (NRA pistol) and was mainly online, snail mail fingerprints at the time. Didn’t report change of address when I gtfo out of CT, so voided that permit, UT renewal requires a home state (WV now) permit which I haven’t bothered with. Got a couple years left on FL, and the realization that there’s 29 states that are constitutional carry, I live in one and can access 25 others. Waiting to see what VA’s new reciprocity law will be. If they honor FL, cool, if they honor WV I’ll get a WV permit, which would offer instant approval of ffl purchases, no phone call, plus the state reimburses the $50 fee at tax time (WV considers the 2a a right, so guns and ammo are tax free). If they go the way of MD,NY, MA, RI, CT et al and don’t honor anyone else’s permit, I’ll simply avoid that state like I do the others that don’t reciprocate.
Seeing as @Kim2 is in VA, be advised MD won’t honor anyone else’s permit, WV and points West are constitutional carry, NC honors VA I’m pretty sure, SC, GA, FL and the rest of the South is Constitutional carry as well. I got UT when there weren’t any cc states, then got FL ‘cuz they didn’t honor CT or UT, then FL went cc anyways, as did UT….and most states in between
New Mexico? Welp, send the $Money$ to such and such by this date and Walah! Instant renewal . Every (4) years there’s minimal trigger time (But it’s lame like ‘Can you hit that target from 3-10’'? )Seriously? That’s it?
Thanks. With the “Present Virginia” permit I’m in pretty good shape. But that’s today who knows what will happen tomorrow. Those people in Richmond are crazy. They change their bills every day so we won’t even know until Spermberger actually signs them.
