CCW holsters for women

I’m looking for input FROM WOMEN based on your personal experience, what types of holsters have you found actually practical for conceal carry? **I’m not looking to purse-carry, and I’m not fond of the flash bang, I tried it with my Ruger LCP (which I don’t carry anymore) and it just wasn’t for me, but I’m open to hearing if others had a better experience with a different firearm. please help!

It seems they all have pros and cons. Ive invested a large amount on holsters and the search continues. So for my Ruger LCR I have a leather magnetic holster. They hold well but it is added bulk therefore not as easy to conceal ( in winter it would be fine). I find belly bands uncomfortable. There are wider ones and also corsets (Dene Adams). Thats my next purchase. Hopefully the last. I also tried a sticky holster. They do stay in place when you draw, but if you turn it upside down, gun falls out. How often are you upside down? well, never but I was shoveling snow one day with that set up and the gun fell out onto the driveway. Yikes! no one saw that but it taught me sticky holsters have limitations. Then I got a Kydex holsters with extra measure (leather) on both sides that are supposed to hold it better. Not liking all that stuff on me. Lastly, the other one I am considering (I also have a SW MP EZ 380) is a slim kydex holster with grip hook. Look it up on The Well Armed Woman. They also have results of a survey on there by women on how they choose to carry. Best of luck and let me know what you decide…

When you make your decision to carry concealed and have chosen the gun you want to carry, you then need to,take into consideration the climate you live in. If you live in a hot climate like I do, light clothing shows imprints. The other thing is your body type. I am short, 5’3" tall and short waisted. My best choice for over-all concealed carry is a good waistband holster, like Lirisy or the one Glockstore sells. Even without using a retention strap, they hold your gun in tight and close to your body, where you want it. These holsters fit a wide variety of guns, even revolvers. Many have an extra pocket for ID or an extra magazine. That reminds me. I am ex-law enforcement and always carry extra ammo. If you ever need it, you will be thankful you have it. If you need it and don’t have it, you could be dead. Also, do reload exercises using dummy rounds. Always make sure there is no live ammo in your gun before you do training exercises with your gun. Never, never, take for granted your gun is empty. Always check it before you train with it.
Hope this helps.

PS: I have a crossbody bag I’ve used when I can’t conceal on my body. It works but it’s less ideal. But I have my gun close to my body which is better than not having the gun on me at all.

Thanks so much ladies for the suggestions!! I’m shopping for a new gun right now so I’ll definitely keep you updated with what I get and what holsters I try!

I have a conceal carry crossbody purse that I use if I’m out with the hubby, because I have his extra situational awareness and he’s always carrying too.

Thanks! I just bought my Sig P365 today and I’m so excited to start carrying! It came with a Kydex IWB holster but it’s SO bulky. Using a sticky holster for now because it’s better than not carrying at all but there’s a lot I don’t love about it.

I prefer Versacarry IWB holster. They have several styles with a screw that secures the gun, but I have not tried standing on my head to see if it truly does stay put. They are extremely comfortable. They have several styles.

This year at the A Girl and A Gun annual conference, I discovered the Enigma by #phlsterholsters. It has worked really well for me. I have a very small frame and it’s difficult for me to hide my Springfield Mod 2 double stack. I was using an all elastic belly band which held close to my body but wanted something with Kydex. There is a great YouTube channel, Armed and Styled with tons of advice dedicated to carry for ladies as well as other topics.

Have you tried a suede leather IWB holster?

That’s great to know, I too am a smaller lady and there’s not much room to hide anything

I was just looking at some today, my concern is that I’d really like to find a holster with a fabriclip/ulticlip (basically clips onto pants not belt) even though I wear a belt for the support and concealment, because I have such limited real estate on my waistband it would make it easier to wear my holster.
