I have been using a Leisure carry for about a year to occasionally carry in sweats and gym shorts. The thing irritated me tonight because it’s difficult to get my DCC clips on sometimes. I’m thinking of just taking my KORE leather belt and wearing it under my gym shorts and sweats instead.
I’ve been reading lots of positives about the Hunter Constantine belt for this stuff. But it’s $120.
Enigma system looks cool but it is more expensive and requires a specialized holster.
I actually have one I used a few years ago. I’m adamant about using kydex holsters. I don’t like how the trigger can be depressed in a belly band, they can be kind of gross as far as keeping them clean, and I hate that strap that has to be unhooked to draw the gun.
Definitely has its place though. I still have mine for whenever I feel like it’s needed.
I’ve struggled with the best arrangement for a long time. I’m in Florida, and do a lot of cycling and tennis, outside in the heat.
For what it’s worth, this is what I settled on. It’s not ideal, but I’m not sure what is. Belly bands look horribly hot, and, like you said, kydex seems most secure and safe, especially during physical activity.
No matter what, it seems there’s going to be no way to keep the gun from getting sweaty. For me, I haven’t seen where it’s affecting my plastic/stainless M&P. I replace carry ammo often, though, and clean/lube the gun immediately after it does get sweaty.
Anyway, I use a basic IWB kydex holster (a very cheap one from Amazon), and velcro on to it a pad from Sticky Holsters. The pad rides directly against my skin, allowing both my underwear and shorts waistband to hold the whole thing. By sticking slightly to my skin, it doesn’t seem to bounce around too much. I just weighed this setup and it’s 1lb 9oz, so it’s not real light, but not a brick. The pad can be removed and is easy to wash when it gets funky.
Having said all that, I’d like to see a better setup from anyone, as it’s not perfect and I’m always open to new ideas.
This looks like best option BUT these look intriguing
All of these allow me to use any holster while also keeping my same draw and carry location. They can also all be accessed quickly with one hand if needed
Hello from Florida. CrossBreeds Modular Belly Band user here. To me, the band does not feel uncomfortable. The sweat does get on the metal, but after years of use I saw no ill effect.
As a less sweltering alternative to a broad belly band, also consider the clean design of the PHLster Enigma.
Note the videos with John and Sara (PHLster owners/ developers) showing wear in gym clothes and scrubs.
If you do go for a belly band, please look at the models that support a proper hard kydex holster, instead of just holding the gun in an elastic pocket.
I use a bellyband. I also use a trigger guard. Lanyard of trigger guard is attached to belly band. Trigger guard on first before returnig firearm to bellyband.
So I played around with my Leisure Carry. Got it to work right the past two days after changing the pants. It stinks because I want to use pants with a heftier draw string for support, but that also ads to the difficulty of getting my clips clipped in how I like. (I’m a picky fellow when it comes to hanging guns by my manhood). I get a lot of tipping with this too if the draw string isn’t tight enough, which can be difficult to adjust.
I’ll keep using this till I’m ready to get a Hunter Constantine belt.
I highly recommend the Thunderwear holster. It is deep concealment but I have used them for 25 years in California. You can’t take a chance on printing or your gun being seen in CA., otherwise you create panic. When in Tenn. I use a IWB holster. The Thunderwear holster holds my gun well, even when exercising or working on cars.
I’ve actually been recommended the smart carry thunderwear on another forum.
My only skepticism is the draw. I like having my draw be the same regardless of what I’m wearing. This seems to require sucking in the belly pulling pants back and drawing. Seems like a great tool for deep concealment though .
