Carry an extra or don't carry an extra mag, that's the question

I carry an extra mag on me and in my car I have my get home bag with first aid and four extra mags.

always carry extra in case of malfunctions, also i dont mean any disrespect or harm, but the “10 black youths” and " (my co-worker is white) wasn’t really necessary. even if you didn’t tell us your co worker was white, everyone would assume that he was because of your previous description( 10 black youths). People perceive things differently and not all " black youths on bikes" are coming to threaten your life. I Also would hope your friend isn’t opening fire on children on bicycles. just an observation.

I carry my standard 15 rd mag (+1) in my firearm, and then I have a 18rd mag in my pocket on a “NeoMag” holster. So in total 34 rounds.

When idiots are riding around on bikes at night without lights ( which in SC is illegal) in a drug infested neighborhood, threatening to steal your bike and shouting the n-word at you I would be well North of concerned for my personal safety don’t you think

I agree 100% , but as an African american myself, my name is tarnished enough. once again was just an observation.

It is not our job to ignore facts for the sake of either your feelings or your reputation. My 2 cents: it is the job of black men to defend their own reputations, and it would be awesome if y’all started taking care of business and quit whining about it.

10 of any living thing coming at me seems like cause for concern, from five linked skinks to elephants.!

I’m just saying
I’m a middle-aged, bald, white guy with a beard and ride motorcycles. When a bunch of outlaw bikers shot each other up at a family restaurant at a Coalition meeting in Waco, TX, I didn’t go around telling soccer moms in minivans to stop picking on bikers. I actually went and talked to BIKERS and told them they need to behave themselves better in public. Get my drift?

Not just yes but HELL yes! There’s an old rule of essential equipment that is sooo true
“Two is one and one is none.”

No. Maybe I need to re-evaluate my mode of thinking but 10 rounds seems adequate, to me, for a self defense engagement. I suppose a full-blown shoot-out is a different matter

Yep, because:

  1. The mag is by far the most common part to fail mechanically. Think spare tire.
  2. Nobody in a gunfight ever thought, “Dammit! I’ve got too much ammo!”
  3. A whole lot of people who have been in gunfights have thought to themselves, “Uh-oh! I’m running out of ammo!”
  4. Loaded mags are the heaviest part of modern pistols. Carrying a spare balances out your load.

“Better to have and not need, than the other way around.”

Always at least one refill on board. ALWAYS. I bought a couple of the Pachmayr cool blue speed-loaders for my Model 642 last week. They are non-functional. I have NEVER had an HKS plastic loader fail or malfunction in any manner. A word to the wise.
