So I’ll be taking a trip to communist California in a couple months and I’m figuring out how I want to keep my family safe. I will not be carrying my typical pistol but I still want to have some protection, so I came to the conclusion of having a knife. But. California laws prohibit fixed blades being concealed. The question I have is how intense is that law? How easy is it to get out of? I will go to jail if it means protecting my family but I want to make sure that it won’t be for something as stupid as concealing a fixed blade knife. What do yall think?
Err on the side of caution.
It’s been a few decades since I was in California, so no advice to offer. I do, however, want to welcome you to the community!
Problem is I don’t like feeling vulnerable. I know there are some laws that are easier to get out of than others. Just wondering if anyone had experience with that particular CA law
I was there for a couple of days last month. Drove in from NV with small pepper spray, thumb/index finger blade opener pocket knife and “tactical” pen. I have not checked their laws/regs. on stun gun, taser or Byrna so can’t comment on those.
Quick recap:
Generally, folding knives are legal, but switchblades with blades 2 inches or longer are restricted. Fixed-blade knives (dirks and daggers) must be carried openly in a sheath and concealed carry is illegal.
This
I carry my EDC CCW in California. It is not legal so I don’t let anyone see it. Even if they do how is anyone going to know I don’t have a permit for it? I see no reason not to be safe because someone wants to infringe on my 2A right.
Pepper spray might be the way to go. Tactical pens are illegal in CA just so you know. “Weapon disguised as another object”
2.25" plastic
1" blade
Or bring a gun and pretend you don’t speaky no ingliss. It’s a sanctuary state so furrinners have more rights than citizens…
Maybe a Byrna?
I carry a Spyderco Delica, which seems to check all the legality boxes for wherever knives are legal in CA and CCWs are not.
Arrest yourself now?
I get hives just going to Tahoe, the North side
Interesting. I have a few and one’s part of my EDC.
No wonder water’s clearer
If you are going to take a fixed blade just have it in a sheath on your waist and open carry, no reason to try and hide a fixed blade that will exceed 2" if you can open carry, will be more comfortable. If you don’t want to open carry then get a nice folding knife and don’t worry about it.
