Hi everyone, Need some help. Just purchased a new to us car, Nissan Kicks to be exact for my wife. The problem is, however where to secure our pistols. In her old car, we had a hidden gun safe in the spare tire compartment along with the tire. With the Kick there is no room to spare. ( matter of fact had to take tool bag out and spread the hand tools around the spare. Also there is no room “in” the spare because of the Styrofoam that contains the Jack. I was thinking of just a padlocked cable, or a bicycle cable with built in lock ? Anyone have any further ideas ? I would be grateful
You could cut out to fit a handgun vault with cable. But that’s my redneck solution.
something here might work??
You can do this at different price points, but I use a cable locked case under the seat. For a few bucks you can get a strong metal box with a key lock from Harbor Freight, or you can get a Vaultek or Hornady case. Each has a pretty good cable that locks into the case, which fits under your seat. I do this so that I can secure my guns in the car when necessary without having to get out of the car and possibly make it visible to others that I’m locking a gun in my car.
Under the seat locked cases with cables work well (if you stick with a major brand). You need to give some thought to getting your firearm in and out of the lock box without drawing attention to yourself. When would be thieves see your head and shoulders bobbing up and down they know exactly what you are doing.
Watch your language…the children…
Bass Pro/Cabelas sell TSA approved lock boxes with cables that fit under the seat of my Niro nicely. Got two so I can have them if needed while traveling and want to take more than one pew-pew with me. They go on sale periodically and are reasonably priced at normal cost.
The only thing the “TSA Approval” means is they know how to open it!
Maybe something like this would work for you.
@Troy67 Good to see you, and a great idea.
I use the Vaultec and the included cable to lock it down under my seat. I am frequently at the hospital and they do not allow guns. And they have the detection gear to prove it!
Hi George, thanks for the reply, those safe’s are what I have… One for my Truck the other for her car however now her safe no longer fits in the trunk
Hi thanks for the suggestion, never thought about Cabella’s I just checked the site and found 2 that might fit will go and find out !! Thanks again
One time I forgot to bring my portable gun safe with me, I went to Harbor Freight.
They have similar products but if I wasn’t I wasn’t in a rush, I would’ve gone to Basspro first.
Under the seat?
