Buddy came to visit from NC and wife approved a boys weekend. Had to give him a taste of living in the old west.
We made it to a small town where they were holding their annual Gold claim auctions, no-shlt real gold claims, annual parade and saloons were the order of the day.
Spent the night at an old Brothel converted to a nice B&B and then last night we no-tent camped after 4 wheeling about 20+ miles cross desert deep and high into the mountains.
Should have moved “out west” decades ago. Finally feel at home back in America.
Good times with a good buddy, guns, beer, whiskey, meat on sharp sticks over flames and guns…
Both, but hey what’s life without challenges… For the bigger ones we have choices. Both a S&W Custom 629 .44mag and a Glock 48 with red dot handy at all times. My buddy had his own choices. Too cold for snakes and creepy crawlies at night.
I go high into the mountains and WAAAAAAAY away from civilization like actual roads and such so no two legged folks have ever shown up at night.
My short trips are not as exciting as yours was, but I totally get it.
Heard that even the air out there literally changes the laboratory counts in one’s body to healthier levels.
I been around some water, cliffs and woods myself. Like heaven.
Kind of a funny anecdote; We think sometimes being in the country can have risks, all the places we go.
So today, here I am in the city, just walking home, when a very large tree branch comes crashing down on the sidewalk just behind me (on what could have been my head), I felt its breeze. Bystanders saw it and moved it off the sidewalk.
Dude, I hardly ever wear music earbuds, but I had worn them today, almost didn’t hear it, narrowly missing me. Lesson learned brother.
Not us in the photo, just some shocked on-lookers.
There is nothing better for the soul than sleeping under the stars, where you are so far from civilization that you have 0 light pollution obscuring your view. It really drives home the sweetness of a beautiful life. Makes all of your earthly cares seem miniscule.
It is amazing and I wish more folks would take advantage of it. It does put a lot of things in perspective.
As we were getting camp ready, basically build fire and bring out meat for the sticks, I stopped my buddy and asked him “Do you hear that?”. He looks around and goes “What?!?!?”. And I said “NOTHING…. Not ONE sound!”. Nightfall came and we crawled into the sleeping bags to insects chirping.
Funny moment. As I’m walking around town this couple is walking towards my buddy and I and the lady stops in front of me and just blurts out, “That gun is loaded with blanks right?”. I said, “Sorry hon, I don’t do blanks. Actually no one in this state does. They are useless.”
Her husband just burst out laughing and fist bumped me
I love the lively crackle of a mesmerizing campfire, and the smell of coffee, bacon and eggs in the outdoors after a night of drinking a little bourbon right out of the bottle.
The Grand Canyon is on my list!!! Been there before but I need to get lost in there for a few days. Absolutely spectacular and a life changing place for anyone that has never seen it. Photos do it no justice!!!
@Enzo_T You got that right!!! Nothing like REAL AMERICAN LIVING!! Taking a big breath of fresh air, staring up into a stary night, listening to the crackling of a campfire! I’m packing the ole mule, when’s the next trip!!
