@Josiah, don’t get me wrong I think the Air Force is the best!!! Not sure exactly what you mean by benefits being better they are pretty much the same across services.
To come in as an officer you have to have your bachelorette degree. Now there is a whole section of the medical group that is all about fitness. This could be right up your alley if you like physiology and fitness training. Depends what your degree is in.
Your recruiter can schedule an ASVAB.
If you have a 4 year degree I’d definitely look into OCS, again your recruiter can direct you.
If you have a 2 year degree and can pass the flight physical, Army Aviation has (had?) a Warrant Officer program for helicopter pilots. You kind of have to be a crazy wild man for that one though
Folks going into the health care fields may have a slightly different (and maybe a little easier) path to become an officer. Your recruiter will tell you about that. Medical Service Corps officers in the Army are sort of a class all their own. Still Soldiers though.
As a proud, retired Army Soldier, my observations are that the Air Force does an excellent job taking care of their Airmen. The educational opportunities are terrific. The chow is great and their housing is much nicer.
Yes sir. The Army still has Warrant Officer Army Aviators. It is a competitive and challenging process though. In fact, Warrant Officers make up the bulk of Army Aviators. It is a terrific field to be in.
I don’t know for sure about the benefits either. Some people have said the benefits are better in the Air Force. Not sure if they meant insurance benefits or what exactly. That would make sense for insurance benefits to be the same across the board.
Yes, I do have a bachelor’s degree. It is not specifically physiology and fitness, although I do work on my own fitness programming and such. But I’ve never done that officially. I’m currently debating staying within the medical field.
Go in after the holidays and talk with the recruiters find out what that can tell you then stay in touch with the folks here at the community. There good people and will give you good advice
Acceptance to OCS depends on your scores on the Officer Selection Battery (OSB). I took it while enlisted on active duty. I did well on both the ASVAB and OSB. Never got a chance to go until I went reserves. I chose not to continue after being selected. Long story short I was hiding serious PTSD symptoms. I feared being discovered. 100% VA Disabiltt. You should be able go straight in to OCS. Talk you the recruiters. Your best options are Air Force or Army because you can live almost a real family life. But the Army will put you through the ringer. Either enlisted or officer? You’ll make a lot more as an officer and get respect. But some enlisted benefits might include bonuses and/or college loan repayments and/or GI Bill college money. I was eligible for it all but it changes. That’s why you need to talk to recruiters.
Military life is tough. Your spouse has to be on board. It greatly impacts them too. Lots of time away from family. But you get used to it after a while. I ignored an opportunity to fly jets in the Navy. Long stupid story.
There will not be a coup. This is fear mongering. Besides, I don’t believe most military would act against civilians like this, no even with the Insurrection Act as proposed by some far right activists.
I hope I’d be joining a large group of people who will not just “follow Biden’s orders.” That being said, I wouldn’t just follow Trump’s orders either. Definitely prefer Trump to Biden. Long story short, yes. Especially if he’s as corrupt as his son likely is.
Quit sitting on the fence. As an NCO, I would order you to NOT follow Biden’s orders. Your oath will be to the Constitution, NOT to American Citizens. However, your oath WILL authorize you to kill American Domestic Terrorists. If I have to explain who these citizens are…do NOT enlist or get commissioned.
Everyone in our military will have to make that decision real soon. I only hope that they remember their oath and understand right from wrong. Blindly following orders has led to many horrible things. Patriots will know what to do.
If you have a degree already this will help you. Especially if you go into the field with your degree. There are a lot of benefits to going into the military and the Air Force for someone wanting a leg up would be a good idea. What do I know though, I got out of the Air Force and went into the Marine Corps. It is important to what you put into the Military to what get out of it but, that is with anything you do.
If you do, and for the strong probability you get stationed at Barksdale Air-Force Base, call me. You will have won a free range trip, ammo for that range trip, and a cold-one after (After firearms are locked away of course). I don’t ever drink but that would be called for celebration.
That’s a wise statement. My grandfather was 21 years in USAF and only made tech sergant… (I say only) but he was also a veteran by serving in Vietnam thus making any promotion worthy. But now to my point… After that, he still needed work, and found himself managing a warehouse. (I guess that’s where got my skill… warehouse )
I can’t speak of my grandfathers looks but Oma will… (She’s alive and turned 90 last October, she loved her Andy)! haha but yes, he was very computer literate. I need some of those skills at this very moment…
I would love to go knock on my hackers literal front door! He would then receive a bill not a fight btw lol
Got to be rational human beings now! lol
Our country relies heavily on our space assets. Without GPS our military would be lost (along with most of our country). From surveillance, telecommunications, timing, tracking, geolocation, to meteorology. All critical roles. We must maintain Space dominance to remain viable as a country.
See what each service has to offer. Think what you can offer each service. Choose a career field that will challenge you. A career that will offer you a future. Make sure your wife is onboard each step of the way. She may be the one sitting home managing the household while you are deployed for extended periods of time.
I missed the birth of one of my children while deployed. My wife also got several doses of CS and nearly stung by a scorpion by trying to help clean up my field gear. We moved a lot. I was TDY at unexpected times. Never lived near family support. Something to ponder.
Military service isn’t for everyone. Service means giving. Working hard. Teamwork. Sacrificing.
p.s. Study up on Chain-of-Command. the UCMJ and “Lawful Orders”. Thoroughly review the oath you will take. You must take The Oath with a clear conscience.
