We had a long discussion in my high school physics class about this. There are many more answers, including using the barometer as a measuring stick to measure the length of the building’s shadow on the ground, and applying trig to get the height; also going to the building engineer and trading the barometer for a copy of the building blueprints.

The carrying capacity of Earth for saints would be larger than for real people.
Real people do not distribute things equitably, and that lowers the carrying capacity.

“As far as gear goes, you don’t need any of that ■■■■. Nobody needs that stuff. If it makes people feel better to have a garage full of the very best gear available, great, I’ll sell it to them.”
Yvon Chouinard, Outside, October 1987

If you were around while this was unfolding, ear-to-ear .

“There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.”

IMHO- should be on everyone’s must read list. A tough read, but the message resonates with the current political climate that promotes mediocrity and forced “doing things for the greater good” mindset that kills innovation and the human spirit. Who’s John Galt?
