A new situation to me - My EDC and the Fire Department

Last week I had a medical emergency, immunotherapy is no joke, that required the Paramedics to come and get me AND haul me out of my bed and take me to the hospital. I’m fine now but what a b***c. During the visit the paramedic that was taking my vitals noticed my EDC sitting on the night stand next to my bed. I was cognizant to what he was doing but couldn’t really react at the moment. He looked at me then turned, picked up the firearm, it was in my IWB holster, and placed it on top of a cabinet next to the bed. Nothing said, no big deal. I’m guessing he was more comfortable having out of the reach of all of those folks in the room.

So here’s my observation, I really have no plan in place on what to do if I’m unable to get to/secure my fire arm in a health emergency. At that moment I was in no condition to be handling a firearm, my wife was in no emotional state to handle a firearm. My son thanked the EMT for securing the firearm, he couldn’t get through the room to get to it.

What are your plans? Do you have a plan in place for what to do with your gun if, god forbid, you have a debilitating health emergency and can’t/should get to your firearm?

No real plan but my EDC is never in plain sight I would only have to worrie if it was on me. It is always with in my reach but never in plain sight

I’m glad to hear that you’re ok now, Mike!

I don’t have a plan for such a situation, which for me is not unlikely, and I thank you for posting this. Now I have something to think about.

THIS :index_pointing_up: My Brother is why I created my ‘WAR room’ (formerly a Spare room/ Crochet/Wool storage area). My Plan (as most guy’s have a plan —that often fails because life intrudes) Was to have a dedicated area/room for Guns and hardware. It’s got a outdoor lock with a Punch code on a solid door. An EMT or nosy Cop wouldn’t just be able to walk in and say ‘Hey why do you have 200 guns?’ (I don’t–I made up that number)
My Sister KNOWS if I don’t wake up one day, or have that Med emergency take the ‘Go to’ Guns from my room into the War room. Problem solved (for now)

Never thought about it. I keep a coyote gun on my living room window sill during the day when I am home. My EDC is on my side or in the safe.

Same here.

I’ve gone back and forth on that one, I like having it “out of sight” but I also like to have immediate access so if I’m abruptly awoken in the middle of the night I can get to it with the least steps…

I agree mine is easy and quick to get just not in plain sight.

I use a Sentry safe unlocked stuffed under my nightstand. I can grab it by the handle, drag it out, open the lid and have my 40S&W 14+1 in my hand quicker than I typed this

The 40S&W has a WML, but I keep a ridiculous bright flashlight on the nightstand to temporarily blind and Identify any fool wandering into my bedroom at night.

EDC options are in the safe or on my body.

The USCCA Stopbox—unlocked, has my EDC when I’m watching tv or in bed. When my grandson arrives unannounced, I’ll just gently put my hand on it to click and lock in place.

Hang on in there, Mike.

Everybody should have a WAR ROOM, I do! and inside the war room is a hidden closet that is locked with a safe in it. Four barriers to actually get to it and only if you know it was there.

If you have a walk-in closet, use the back half as a hiding spot for your guns.

EXACTLY!

That’s was my purpose, Discreet Security, the semi-Intense lock/door handle is the only give away that this isn’t the ‘Laundry room’. My predicament was ALL my rooms have a window.
And that is why I put a huge ‘Choya’ cactus in front of my window. If you get past that. the spotlights, the MOAT and Gator’s, the Phoo gas pods, the Punji pits, and the family of PUMA
(new aditions in the front yard… you deserve to just walk into my house unmolested!

Could’ve gone horribly wrong,

“Gun! He’s got a gun in the room!”

Kudos to the guy for handling it well.
