However, the more rounds you need to use, the more likely for collateral damage.
Police have qualified immunity and are not always criminally liable for collateral damage.
Civilians are almost always liable.

I carry a 1911 in 45ACP bc I like it, and can shoot my best with it. Nothing against a 9mm.
That said, I’ll wear out two barrels before having a frame issue, AND, they’ve been around long enough to prove worthy.
But to the point…over penetration concerns point to the rule of knowing what’s beyond your target, regardless of what launches the bullet

My is Beretta 92, normally 15 + 1. But Beretta has started producing a new mag that holds 20. Not extended over about 1/2 inch, so still fits IWB holster well. They also make 18 rnd mag that fits my existing spare mag pouch, 20 rnd was too long. So 38 +1 menas watch my background even MORE.

Seems like everyone is commenting from the view that you will have 15-20 rounds to play with, But if you are from or spend time in restricted states that only allow 10 then what would be your thinking ?
As far as the ammo. Why would the new ammo only bump up the 9 when you can buy the same for 45 ?
And yes my EDC is a 45 filled with Critical Defense because I travel to restricted states, But i am playing with the 357 that no one can confuse with a 9 or 45

In my opinion (and my time in the military) the .45 was my preferred fire arm. The main reason for my preference was the. .45 dumped all of its energy into your target and did not over penetrate. Plus, back in my time, there was alot of talk about the effects of hydrostatic shock from a .45. So my preference was formed from ancillary reports from the fighting in Vietnam.

I totally get and respect that! Ammo has come a long way though and I favor 9mm because it’s close enough these days if you select the right ammo, and the reduced recoil make follow-up shots easier and more accurate. My opinion, not saying one is right and one is wrong. For the record, I have both.

Can I relate this to vehicles? If all you do is drive a truck for the last 20 years and people tell you that you will get better gas milage in a smaller car, if you get in that little car, it just seems too low and too small. The car does get better gas milage, but you are used to your truck, and you are more comfortable with your truck. Plus if you have a truck gun then what do you do with it when you have a little car?

Handgun wounding isn’t about energy it’s about permanent crush cavity and modern good jhp all open up properly
Really though the bottom line is basically everyone would benefit from getting off the keyboard and putting this energy into dry fire, the gym and cardio which are all far more likely to save your life
