IDK, maybe I should move to Utah.
I think the law might disagree with this statement.
Which state are you in that considers pepper spray to be lethal force? I am not aware of any that do so.
Maybe.
Again, I never said pepper spray is lethal force. I said if you feel the need to pepper spray someone then you are responding to potentially lethal force and pepper spraying them is just escalating the situation.
What is “potentially lethal force”?
Are you referring to all force, including force the law does not consider to be lethal force?
If someone is successfully using force to prevent you from running away, then they are more than capable of using that same force to kill you.
This is why I’m suggesting to run away, and if you are being physically prevented from running away then you may be in a lethal force encounter and should have no illusion that it is anything less than that.
I think we are a couple steps past lost in the weeds so I’ll just leave it with a link. Can’t really top the muffin

I do with a single stack Mod 43 Glock but not so much with Mod 19 or 23 or even Mod 27 but always carry one or two extra mags. For the 43 it’s a 10 rd mag. For 19 a Mod 17 mag, for a 27, a 23 mag and for a 23 a 22 mag. Do you see the Glock thread???
Now I think I understand why people might do press check. I don’t think I could ever keep track of current status with that many options in the live deck — might not even be certain where my gun was… ![]()
With that assortment I just know I’d wind up with a mismatch between 9/.40 mag and .40/9 gun eventually.
I also live in a 10 round state. I carry 1 in the chamber, 10 in the magazine and a spare 10 round magazine for a total of 21. I do this religiously.
@Gregory161 Welcome to the community, we are glad to have you.
As a member of a high visability church security team in a popular mountain lake area, I do just that. Hammer back and locked. We also meet in a big tent in the summer and are wide open on all four sides. We’ve have had viable threats from a member’s ex who’s a bit “testy”, not to mention a varied “community” of some folks maybe a bit off. The “average” gun fight is over in about 4 seconds…you don’t have time to rack one in, ( time yourself sometime on how long it takes to drop a mag and slam a new one in the gun); we always carry a loaded extra magazine.
You can’t predict when someones going to get in your face (figuratively speaking).
It’s advised to practice shooting, dropping the mag and reloading on regular basis to hone your skill.
There’s no such thing as a “fair” gun fight.
I also live in a 10 round limit state. I like to carry a pretty small EDC gun (Bodyguard .380) so it leaves me somewhat under powered and low on ammo options. I carry in a pocket holster (6+1) and two backup mags (6 round each) in a vest or jacket pocket. I always carry same items in the same pocket location so I get pretty consistent draws and reloads no matter the attire.
Three (3) magazines. Two (2) filled to capacity and the third has only one round. The one round magazine is used to load a round into the chamber, magazine removed, full magazine inserted, and second full magazine used as a backup.
I carry with 1 in the chamber and a full 15 round magazine for 16 rounds total. I do not normally carry a spare magazine.
@Brady78 Welcome to the community, we are glad to have you here.
I understand what you’re doing, but I don’t understand the advantage over topping up a full magazine down one.
How is topping up any different than the last round placed into a magazine form empty?
- 10 rounds ≠ (10 – 1 + 1) ?
Likely just ease of loading as some mags the last round is much more difficult to load.
What Dave said ^
Also, with the using of a full mag then topping that mag off, I find that I end up either holstering the gun with no magazine in it while doing this, or putting the gun down while doing this, neither of which I like. I prefer having the full mag ready to go, do the 1 for the chamber, put in the full, holster and go.
