WV Handgun Laws

On first read I thought this was a clear cut case of moving from MD to WV with your own firearms. But as others pointed out and upon rereading I realized it maybe wasn’t so clear cut if the firearm ownership had been transferred while still in MD and if the proper paperwork hadn’t been done.

With the clarification that it appears to have been legally transferred in WV, there should be no issues in WV or from a federal perspective.

Though MD still likely has a record of that firearm belonging to someone else. If MD LEOs were given a reason and opportunity to check that firearm in their system they might give the current owner a hassle over it and force them to prove that the firearm was legally transferred.

If I was to take a firearm with a similar provenance back to MD I would consider carrying a copy of the proof that it was legally transferred in another State. Though I personally would just not go to MD if given the choice.

I could care less whether anyone agrees with my point of view over someone else’s. I am just pointing out some of the issues that I would be concerned with if I was in a similar situation. Others are free to consider for themselves whether my concerns are valid or not.

No worries here. I’m quite happy just to be alive and have the chance to spend another Christmas with my family!

Just trying to make sure everyone who might read this in the future thinks about all the complexities that State and Federal laws create for firearm owners. It can all be very hard to safely navigate if we don’t look at it from all the possible legal angles.

As long as you are good with someone telling you, you shouldn’t be looking at it from those angles. I don’t have a problem with it. Some one might.

Though I probably agree with the majority of the people here on the majority of the issues, I am willing to go against the heard and speak my mind when I disagree. I don’t mind hanging out with the herd but I’m quick to turn in the opposite direction and walk my own path if I think they are heading for the cliff edge.

Stick around long enough and I’m sure I’ll say something that upsets you as well;) Hopefully you will realize, as some of the others here do, that my disagreements are just me voicing my personal opinions. I try very hard to not let the act of expressing my personal opinions come across as personal attacks on other’s character or positions. But some people seem to have a very hard time telling the difference between constructive conversation and personal attacks. I find it is usually the ones personally attacking everyone who disagrees with them that have the hardest time with this distinction. :man_shrugging:
