When my wife came to get me at my hospital discharge she had put her 9mm underneath the front seat of her car and came in the hospital to roll me out to the car. The next day she had an appointment to get her car worked on. Her car was parked on the shops lot since Friday waiting for parts. she remembered about the pistol Monday morning, since she worked only a 1/2 mile from the shop, we stopped enroute to retrieve her gun, I unlocked the driver’s door reached in and removed the 9mm. Relocked the door and left. 2 1/2 hrs. later the shop called me; to say her car was broken into and they broke a rear window and pulled the ignition out and ransacked the back of the car. I hadn’t notice any of it because it was dark, and we were in a bit of a rush. The teens were caught on video doing the damage although not in custody as of this writing, I’m sure if they had a bit more time they would have found her gun, I think she learned a real valuable lessen… keep track of your pistol at all times !!
That’s one of those you never know when or where it’s going to happen things. Glad the little bastards didn’t get the gun. Lesson Learned I suppose.
Whew… Lucky… I have gun safes in each one of my cars … Some states you know Plus going to the bar for dinner (is it a bar or not? like I know how much booze they sell) or any of the other places they do not like the GOOD GUYS …
I’m embarrassed to admit it happened to me recently.
Just a couple weeks ago in Tahoe, my wife and I stayed in a hotel. I had my EDC as if I was home, including having the pistol under my pillow.
Mistake no. 1: left it when we left to have lunch and do a short trip to Carson Valley. I realized my boo-boo when we arrived. We got back to the hotel in the evening and it was still there.
No. 2: When we checked out, I left it again. I’m thankful that I caught my mistake when we were still less than two miles away from the hotel, made a u-turn, and asked front desk staff to allow me to go back to the room.
Before leaving the house, I normally would count to four to ensure I’m not forgetting anything.
1-keys, 2-EDC, 3-wallet, 4-phone.
I was distracted during our stay due to my aching knee that I was not able to keep my routine.
Lesson learned.
Exactly why you all should have a Titan Gun Vault, one safe multiple mounts and a cable lock fits all youe needs. Check them out at Titangunvault.com
Did you bolt them in?
A pistol under the pillow is still something I just cannot understand or endorse.
KISS: Put the gun on your person, leave it there all day. Just that. Done. Nothing else. Go to bed, put it in the one same place every time.
I travel a lot for work as a Regional Sales Mgr. Fortunately I drive most of the time and to CCW friendly “reciprocating” states for my CCW permit. Hotel protocol for me is before bed, situate my luggage next to the bottom of the bed, lay out a white small towel, place towel on top of opened bag and pistol on towel.
Reasons for white towel is mostly if I need to address something I’m not comfortable with (sound in hall, activity outside door, etc.) and it’s at night and rather dark in the room, it’s easy to identify and retrieve. Then when packing it’s definitely easy to see and not overlook.
And I don’t stay in questionable establishments but as we all know and have commented on…anything can happen anywhere.
Under the pillow is my one same place.
When there’s a bump in the night, even in the dark with my eyes closed, I know where to find it.
I’m sorry for your ‘Troubles’ man.
Here in Cactus Junction one of the worst things a Vehicle
owner can do is leave their ride overnight @ a repair shop. (I KNOW
it has to be done, it just sucks). This is where A LOT of the Car crimes
stats go wild!
I have a pact with my mechanic to at least keep the Jag I own in a locked bay. My Xterra is ‘usually’ ok, and left alone out front. Hope I didn’t jinx myself just now?
The wonderful day’s of ‘Gun Racks’ and ‘Go Bags’ exposed is over for us here.
Yet folk’s STILL leave Laptops, phones, nice sunglasses and Remotes to their Garage in plain sight! SS!
“has to be done”
I’m confoozed! Is your gun glued to an interior part of your car?
I’m concerned about your ability to unstick it if you need it…
Please be gentle in your response, I’m not as smart as I think I am
U Phunnie Fella.
I don’t leave my gun in de car (ever)
I don’t leave it in da car
I don’t leave it in da Bar
I don’t trust dis neighborhood
I thought you knew it was understood!
(Howz dat?)
Pssst: I sliced the headliners a stick all my guns up there then safety pin it back up…
Safety pins are the poor man’s crazy glue. Git sum and make sure your gun sticks to the dashboard so nobody can steal it
PS I know what some of you may be imagining. I cant’t be responsible for what some sick phuk substitutes in his mind what this woman is blowing on. She is kinda sexy though.
Yes. And, if you live in a state/jurisdiction that requires firearms be secured in locked, hard sided case when in a motor vehicle (e.g., Colorado, California, etc), be sure that your firearm is not simply squirreled away under a seat.
I have one of those metal lock boxes with a cable attached to the underside of the seat, which I lock mine into when needed.
In one vehicle yes the others i just have the cable …
Colorado’s ok AFAIK
We have a gun safe in my truck, but we were using her car,
I get you … For me, because I always carry… I made sure all my vehicles have a lock box … They do not cost that much… The crap ones… I mean inexpensive ones are under 20 bucks… I like the bio ones, that is just me… They cost a little more…
I did something similar. Checked out of our hotel then an hour later realized I left my gun under the bed in my lock box. Turned around and drove back and picked it up. Never did anything like that again.
