35 is actually the longest I have shot the P365. That happens to be the furthest distance I can get from the target at the gravel pit I prefer to do most of my pistol shooting at. I can keep all of my shots on my 12”x18” steel silhouette target if I’m not shooting too rapidly. But about 30% of those shots end up outside of the main cluster with a couple hitting near the edges.
I haven’t tried in quite awhile but I used to be pretty solid with my Glock 19 out to 50 yards.
But because it’s easy to conceal, it’s hard to draw from sitting down, and because of its small size I’m only down to 7 rounds and 6 rounds with a reload.
After Covid happened, and businesses were shut down, people getting laid off, unemployment system being overwhelmed, 2020 riots, the talks about bugging out or at least getting home to your family, the Glock 43 did not meet the criteria for an incident like that.
So my idea was either a Glock 19 or a Glock 17.
I had a Glock 17 training gun so I got the Glock 17.
Bad sides of the Glock 17.
It’s big, bulky, and heavy, and prints like hell with the wrong type of clothing.
But I can draw from concealment with ease, and with spare ammo, I have about 52 rounds total to work with dealing with any kind of threat situation, rather than the Glock 43. I put a 500 lumen light on it so it’s more suited than the Glock 43’s 100 lumen light.
If I can’t carry the Glock 17 one day, I’ll use my Glock 43.
My first gun was or is a S&W 686 357 magnum, but I carry the Kimber Ultra carry 2. It is as small as the P365 but just a little fatter. It only holds 7 rounds, but it conceals really nice. Plus, I can shoot it rather nicely too! and to me that is important.
I also have a Springfield A1 .45 acp with a compensator on it. This is a really fun gun to shoot but really hard to conceal it. It has a 5-inch barrel then add an inch for the compensator.
As for one I would like to own it would probably be a Taran Butler G19 modified 9 mm. I think it would be a fun gun to shoot, and shoot fast.
Like Todd I carried a Kimber Ultra Carry 2 for about 15 years and after 1,000s of rounds through it I retired it last year, I was wondering how the aluminum frame was holding up/Excuse for a new gun . So I got a Kimber Raptor 4", all steel, yeah I’m an odd ball the older I get the bigger and heavier the gun but I love this one.
As a smaller guy, I generally have trouble concealing larger handguns. For guys that can pull it off, I totally get the desire to carry a larger pistol. I would probably do such myself occasionally.
As much as I enjoy shooting my P365, I find my M17-P320 easier to shoot more accurately, especially at longer distances. You guys carrying the steel-frame, larger pistols definitely enjoy advantages over a bad guy carrying a smaller pistol.
I think there is a lot that can be said for that, if one can pull it off.
Please do. Like you I had a problem with Glocks for years and went through many of them trying to find one I could shoot well naturally.
The 43X and 48 are Gods answer to folks like us. My EDC is a 48 MOS with a Holosun EPS Carry. After many years of 1911 devotion it was hard to admit a Glock finally “fit me”.
And when paired with Shield Arms 15 round mags you end up with a 15+1 gun that is lighter and prints less than a 3” 1911.
As far as the future? Who knows, but it took over 30 years for a gun to knock my 1911s of the pedestal and God only know I tried. I’ll try anything that comes out and looks good but the Glock 48 and my other frequent carry the P365X are going to be hard to top.
I’ve got color matched +2 hyve mags for my 43,and with them,my 43 reminds me of the 43x.
Got some 9 round ets mags as well, but not reliable enough for carry usage as they’re a bit loose causing potential feed issues.
I bought a brand new 43X/48 frame on Gunbroker and turned my 43 into a 43X which allows me to run 15 round Shield Arms mags in it. Now I have options because I can switch from one frame to another in seconds.
My go to EDC is a Sig P938 9mm. It is a very ugly gun, but is light to carry all day, conceals easilly, and always shoots where I point it. It has a 3.1" barrel just like the P365.
I was out of town the last 5 days and carried a Springfield EMP4 (9mm 1911 Compact 4" barrel). With the stainless steel slide and wood grips it is a very good-looking gun. However, at twice the weight of the P938, I am happy to go back to the lighter, smaller 938 today!
I like both of them because they share the same manual-of-arms. Other than the obvious size and weight difference the main shooting difference is the sight picture. The 938 has a “combat” sight picture, and the EMP has a “6 o’clock” sight picture.
I am quite happy with what I have, so fortunately am not looking to own a different EDC.
Thank you sir. I have never held the 938. It sounds pretty good to me. I am a Sig guy so I will check it out. Both of my Sigs also have the combat sight. It took me a little while to get used to it. Have a good one,
Walther PPQ SC - It’s compact, lighter in weight, 10-round flush magazine, carries & conceals well, and fits my hand like it was made for it. I can’t see myself ever leaving the 1911 camp as (see reference above) it’s a 1911. However, for EDC, the PPQ SC checks all the boxes for me as Walther always has.
My very, very first carry gun was a Sig P232 SL. It is all stainless steel and really looks like a Walther PPKS. It is SA/DA and, for it’s size, is quite accurate. I bought it in 2002 when I became a private investigator for a few years.
It is chambered in .380 and is heavy for it’s size. It holds eight rounds. Other than capacity and weight, I found that it could be unreliable with hollow points. It took a while, but I finally found a round that it liked. It is extremely reliable with ball ammo, but I did not think that was desirable for an EDC. Neither did I find a finicky gun very reassuring.
I still have her as a backup gun if my P365 needed maintenance or what have you. I think it well illustrated the need to check out your preferred defensive hollow point rounds in whatever pistol you want to carry. Some guns are finicky about that.
I am just grateful that I test fired my hollow points in the gun before I trusted my and other peoples lives to the pistol. If you don’t run those rounds, and in sufficient numbers to make sure, it could be a real serious problem.
I started off carrying the Springfield XDm 9mm for the high capacity (19+1 rounds)magazines but have transitioned to the Ruger LC9 for the low printing.
I carry a Ruger 9C. It is easy to conceal and since I live in Illinois has less than 15 rounds in the magazine. I also carry a 9E and had to buy 10 round magazines that fit my 9C and 9E both. I like both pistols and never had any trouble with either one after firing 1000 of rounds through then.
