My Glock 45 felt good in the hand. It’s full ambidextrous. So did my P365, only mag release is ambidextrous. Both shoot good for me.

No single factor. In order of significance: size, ergonomics, safety, cost. Just a quirk of mine, I prefer a DAO semi-auto, as there are no safeties to mess with when fit hits the shan.

My choice of a Glock 26 was originally an order, not a choice. But, after 20 years with Glocks, it is the weapon I am most familiar and proficient with. The only question after I retired was what caliber and model. The 9mm subcompact just works.

My P95,first gun, got it as I liked my brothers and was a decent shot with it.
My Taurus ultralite, my grandfather’s carry I inherited.
G2C, wanted a sub-compact.
G34, I wanted a pistol that could use the same mags as my carbine.
Mini revolver, for gun free zones where other guns carried woud be easily seen.

Why did I choose my carry guns (plural)?
I have 2 EDC - one IWB, one ankle.
My IWB is a Sig P239 (yes, I know they don’t make it any more - but I bought mine long ago). Extremely well balanced. Solid. Smooth so no snag. Single stack 9mm so less printing (I’m thin and things really stand out). Extremely accurate. ALWAYS goes bang and has handled ANY ammunition with very few failure to feed or failure to eject.
My ankle carry is a S&W Bodyguard 380. Did not like the feel of either the Ruger or KelTec 380s at the time, but really liked the feel and fit of the Bodyguard (I have big hands). The long trigger was not a problem for me and the gun is very easy to shoot with good accuracy.
On top of that I am a big fan of hammer fired guns, and that was a deciding factor in my final decision for both of these.

I carry two some days it’s a m&p 9 and some days a Springfield xds 45 both are iwb no print no problems and on target very well

I chose to carry one of my Beretta PX4 Storms (I have one in 9mm and one in .40 S&W) because of their actions (SA/DA), their handling, their size, their reliability, their accuracy, and because I find them sexy as hell. I love those little rotating barrels! Having carried a civilian version of the Beretta M9 (mine was a 1980’s commercial edition 92S with slide mounted safety/decocker) for years, I wanted something that was just as capable but a little smaller. The PX4 Storms fit the bill perfectly. I alternate between the 9mm and the .40 S & W just for variety. The fire exactly the same and I’m just as good with the one as I am with the other, though the .40 S & W kicks a little more.

Like my dog, who strayed into my yard and stayed, my first carry gun was a Glock 23 that my nephew needed to sell. I didn’t go through the kind of search process that I now tell others to use, so I called it my stray gun. I like Glocks for a lot of reasons, so I’ve replaced the 23 with a 19 because of my arthritis.

Sixty years of muscle memory, so it had to have all the standard features in all the old familiar places. That would include a familiar manual of arms, an exposed hammer, a downstroke safety under my left thumb, a grip safety, and able to be carried in the cocked-and-locked mode. Can’t teach an old dog new tricks, ya know.

I looked at the cell phone, I looked at the gun.
The gun looked at the cell phone and then looked up at me.
and said:
“I got this.”
I nodded, the salesman nodded, I brought the gun home - He’s got the watch.
No, I mean seriously, first time I drew the gun out of it’s holster the gun grabbed the watch and they’ve been inseparable ever since.
(well, no…not really; every once in a while the watch has to step out on the time)
