R and I sat down and had that exact discussion before we had kids. There were a lot of things we could have afforded but went without had she continued to work, (she has a psychology degree specializing in deviant behavior - repeat criminals). We stayed the course and our 5 boys are much the better for it.

R and I sat down and had that exact discussion before we had kids.

We had the same discussion. We found that the cost of childcare and additional fuel cost back and forth to the sitter was more than what her paycheck was bringing in. She quit her job and we started saving about $100 bucks a week. That was 20 years ago and she is still a stay-at-home Mom.
