Which oil and solvent are you currently using?

I’m an oil & solvent guy. Outers is my preferred brand, but I’ve used just about everything else at one time or another.
Kroil and Eez-ox works well,
I’ve often pressed Wahl electric clipper oil and Singer Sewing machine oil into service with excellent results, and
Gunslick when grease is called for, or Lubriplate.
I’ve also used RIG products.
AeroShell and Darina also do the job.
I loathe aerosol solvents though. Does anyone actually want to risk inhaling that stuff?

Thank goodness, we all usually have “product”. Now that you all mention it, an electric hair trimmer I got, came with a tiny bottle of oil.

I may never try it, but I once heard someone used cooked chicken fat to lube their firearm, but I can imagine the bad odor, afraid it could become sticky, and need some major cleaning once back home. Just afraid it would get into hard to reach places.

Popular in the Arctic for cameras. Regular lubricants don’t work well at low temps in the Arctic so a special lube is required, then when going to a temperate climate the cold weather lubricant has to removed and the camera relubed with the proper lubricant. The advantage to K-Y is it’s water soluble so it’s easily removed.

I tried Shooterlube brand, both the cleaner and oil did “not” have a strong scent during or after cleaning, and when stored, the storage space did not stink either. They advertise as odorless.

I tried Renaissance wax, which worked great as a final protector step, but it causes the storage spot/space/case to have a bad odor, like moth balls.

I plan to try wax by “Vintage Gun Scopes”, Vintage Gun Scopes , in case it doesn’t stink.

But for another cleaner and lube brand, I’m trying “Breakthrough” brand. So far, the cleaner doesn’t stink. They advertise as odorless. Breakthrough also offers short rope snakes for cleaning hand gun barrels, I thought a rare find, as usually I had only found them for long guns.

Hoppe’s #9 and Break Free CLP. I filled an old oil can with the CLP because that Flippy spout always seems to leak on me. It’s also got a longer spout than the original bottle, so I can drop it right where I want it :pinched_fingers:

I think I got caught up in the hype but currently I’m using weapon shield. It’s too expensive and I’ll probably switch when I’ve got it used up. It seems to work great but I think it’s over marketed that too high a price.

Ballistol - spray, liquid, or wipes. I’ve been using it for 7+ years.
