Now, I won’t disagree with that. Just like knowing gun laws, know the rules backwards and forwards where you work and then tie the line. And I mean right up against the thing.
Agreed! Turns out I need at least 10 characters, so here’s some filler. Have a great weekend!!
Not required for employees. That is handled by workplace rules. The signage would be aimed at customers, contractors, visitors etc.
Federal court rulings are clear on this. You have a right to carry a firearm in your vehicle even on employer property.
The exception to that is federal facilities.
I searched the Employee Handbook for the company where I work and found nothing related to weapons of any kind. That in itself is kind of interesting because the company is based in California and the office where I work is in Massachusetts. Not what I would call “gun friendly” states.
I live in NH and if it wasn’t such a nightmare to get a Mass non-resident LTC I would be willing to test the office policy. I’m close enough to retirement that if they fired me I wouldn’t care.
Mike
Unless this changed in the last couple of years that is NOT the case in California. My corporate HQ is in Sunnyvale and the employees there can NOT have a firearm in their vehicle in the employers parking lot. While I have not researched it myself I was told that is a California state law (I could be wrong).

The beauty of owning your own business is you make the rules.
The federal court rulings trump state law and employer reg’s.
Unless you work on sovereign nation soil…
The US Constitution even applies on Indian land.
I worked for years where even carrying in ur vehicle was not allowed. We had two work place shootings and more than 3 deaths.
I have to say (now retired) that is one policy I did not follow.
So they charge and convict you under state law and you get to take them to Federal appeals or sue in federal court from jail.
Just going on record saying California Doesn’t Care if they violate the federal rules. They will happily put you in jail and let you pay to work it out.
I work for the Town of Swayzee, IN. No firearm at all.
@Larry4 is that in the city offices and parking? Or the whole town?
I work for the Town of Swayzee. So it was the whole town. After I got off work, I could carry. Sometimes I would shot my firearm with the Swayzee Police Dept. And I was working for the Town. I loved it, because I could out shot the Swayzee Police Dept. And that was left are right handed. LOL!
There’s no such law on the books in CA that I can find and I doubt it would hold up if they did under our fourth and fifth amendment protections along with federal court rulings extending those rights to our vehicles.
Might be a good question for one of our program Atty’s if @Dawn could get one of them to check in.
I did find this article done apparently by an anti gun atty in CA.
Perhaps it was a company policy (before they acquired the company I worked for) but I was told it was against the law.
I have never been to our corporate HQ in Sunnyvale but I do know they wanted to discipline me for having one in my vehicle in the parking lot in Wisconsin. (Someone saw and reported me one morning in my truck taking the gun off my person and locking it into my gun safe.) Yes we have a lot of anti gun, people and politicians in Madison Wisconsin.
I showed them the Wisconsin state law proving to them I was NOT doing anything against the law and they could NOT keep me as a licensed concealed carry holder from having a weapon in my vehicle no matter what the employee handbook said.
I have been in California once about 25 years ago for about 30 minutes in the desert. We stopped just long enough for me to step out to say I have been in the state. I have never gone back and have no plans on doing so in the future.
Oh and thanks for the link.
Not to be rude but someone was flat out lying to you.
There is no such federal law and there was no such state law. Unless it was a secure federal facility you were well within your legal rights to have a lawfully possessed firearm in your vehicle.
Anti gun types seem to do that from time to time.
Where is this shop located ? internet based hopefully
