I couldn’t carry that, the clip is too low and the top of the knife will protrude from my pocket and catch on my seatbelt all the time!
That’s why I like my smith and Wesson folder.

My Issue is the width of the clip on my other Kershaw (a gift).
I’m going back to the old reliable USCCA knife which is almost snag-free.

Side by side with the familiar USCCA Kershaw, I finally figured out why I have issues with the HK Böker knife—it’s not lefty friendly.

Mine is a Kershaw Select Fire. Four bits and a driver to tackle smaller tasks as they appear such as tightening holster screws before they disappear, reversible pocket clip, thumb stud open and a little bit of ruler markings on the driver. This replaced my Benchmade Mini Osbourne and Gerber Suspension NXT from being both on my person and was actually gifted to me upon telling a stranger I was on the lookout for a combo of bit driver and knife to increase the room for pocket access. I was also asked by several people why I had so many knives in my pockets.

Knife weebs, rejoice! Probably the second or third, maybe fourth defensive knife use I have ever seen on camera. Super duper rare, but here is some evidence that a defensive knife can have utility in rare instances.
In pic 1, defender is getting something out of the freezer when Homie the Clown decides he don’t play that and busts him in the back of the head with a glass bottle. That’s not very sportsmanlike.
Pic 2, defender (after driving him away and drawing knife from his pocket) dives in with vigor, going for hard stabs rather than slashes.
Pic 3, Homie doesn’t like getting all leaky so he tries to control the hand that defender has the knife in.
Pic 4, defender regains control of hand and continues to perforate Homie with great prejudice.
Eventually they separate, and I can’t find a good news story but it sure seems like Homie was not in a great place when he goes off camera and I would not be surprised if eventually he assumed Room Temperature.
Some lessons:
Knives take a LONG time to incapacitate. So can firearms, for sure, but in the few instances I have seen like this, knives take a long time to cause enough blood loss to incapacitate. Often 30 seconds or more. This is a reason I am not a huge fan for defensive purposes.
Knife work is very, very personal, ugly, and mean. It takes a LOT of emotional control to use a knife. I don’t think most people consider this.
The presence of a knife changes the priorities of a grounded fight. I am all for grounded grappling skills like BJJ, I seriously am. Just recognize that if there’s a knife involved that your priority instantly changes from “control his hips and shoulders” to “the hand with the knife is life and death important.”
I don’t know how trained defender is, but every time I see a knife used on camera it’s as a stabby stick. In a lot of martial arts systems I see a lot of slicing and dicing and complicated movement patterns, but in real life I see brutal, straightforward poking like a sewing machine. That could change if ever I saw a highly trained knife nerd in a knife fight for sure.
