It’s either my Taurus 709 Slim on my Ruger LCP II; both I think I got just under $300. I have no issues with either one. The LCP makes a great pocket gun.
@Scotty I was talking with my hubby about proofing and proof marks this morning and thought of your post about multiple proof marks. He mentioned that might be done for a couple of reasons but the most likely is it was re-proofed for different kinds of ammo. As the nature of ammo changed, and the powder used changed, the force inside the chamber changes. It would not be unusual to have the gun “reproofed” when the standard ammo to be used was changed. Given that it looks like your gun may have been used in more than one country, it may have been reproofed before being “deployed” or when being reclaimed.
There are plenty of good inexpensive firearms. $200-$300, I have a 10/22, Marlin 60, and an SR22. All are great fun to shoot, cheap to shoot, and rarely fail unless they’re really dirty.
@Brad. I had nice expensive guns after I was out of the service in my younger years. Now I don’t want any, if I took an inexpensive gun and then took an expensive gun fired them both there’s no difference. It produces the same results. If you have the misfortune to be in an incident here in Illinois you will never get the gun back in your possession by IL law. It’s going to the furnace and if it’s a really good one it’s going to end up in some politicians collection or some police officer above the rank of captain in all likelihood because everyone above captain is connected and they are politicians no longer rank and file.
I bought a Raven for $65
H&K USP Compact 9 for $600, it was like new.
My cheapest rifle is a JC Higgins I bought about 65 years ago. I don’t know just how much I paid for it, but I imagine not more than 25 or 30 dollars. My cheapest pistol is a Hi-Point .40 Win. I paid a little over $100.00 for it and it shoots as good as my S&W 9mm.
Cheapest One I own is a Very Old Remington
Single Shot .22. Was Dad’s Squirrel gun & that’s the
1st Weapon I ever Fired.
It’s the Gun He taught me to shoot with.
He said He paid $18 for it thru J.C. Whitney if I remember correctly. A Mail Order if you can believe it.
Now THAT’S what it’s all about. Great story, sir.
Taurus PT 908. Dad found it in the trunk of a junked out car! Has a broken safety lever and having a hard time finding a replacement part but no hurry. It’s out being repaired and cerakoted back to black right now. I’m guessing it’s a $100-$200 pistol. Genitron says worth about $300 but I think that’s a bit optimistic. Will make a good secondary home defense or back-up weapon for the house or shop. Wife’s EDC is the Ruger LCP which was a tick over $200 brand new so a toss up twixt those two, I guess.
That’s Cool David, I intend to keep my OLD .22 and hand it to my son when I get closer to Senility
LesB
Have to say its my FEG PA-63, I’ve had it for nearly ten years, such a sweet little 9mm, nocely concealable, very easy to handle and shoots like id expect it, little heavy on the D/A first pull but nice and smooth after that.
I just purchased it yesterday the Ruger LCP Max in 380 auto $220 out the door.
Heritage Rough Rider 6.5”, $100
Several inheritance guns that were free to me?
Inherited shouldn’t count though,….
So my Single six, which was inherited by my friends mother when her father passed away….
She knew next to nothing about guns, so she had myself and another friend check out the lot.
I fell in love with the revolver, and she recognized that.
My next birthday she called me and said I needed to come over to her house for a cake and a gift….
Even her son, my buddy was surprised that she gave me that gun!
I absolutely love it!
It’s one of my most prized firearms! Even though it was amongst the least expensive to acquire! ![]()

Beyond that, my least expensive purchase would be my Walther model 7, initially paid $300 but it had a broken firing pin, so they agreed to sell it to me for their cost of $125. (It was a consignment gun)
Took over a year, and another $150 to a gunsmith to bring it back to functional…. So still under $300
For a silly rare and hell of a lot of fun gun!
Browning A5 Sweet Sixteen shotgun - $100 sometime in the 1960’s
Edit: It’s probably worth a couple thousand today …
Picked this one up on a whim while buying ammo at Bass Pro, had it on sale $339. It’s our “mailbox” gun.
I hope that the postman loves it! ![]()
