What would You DO - What Could you DO

About 3 blocks from my front door. In fact I walked down this street last weekend going to a coffee shop. This is also about a block from the Salt Lake City Public Safety Building, a huge police presents in this area and right next to Salt Lake city and County Building, City Hall so to speak.
So, he has a weapon and follows you for several blocks yelling he’s going to kill you. Do you run? Do you face off? Do you draw?
I know some of these guys, maybe this one but they didn’t put his picture in the article so I can’t say for sure, no matter what you do they won’t stop. They’ll chase you if you run, they’ll fight if you face off, they’ll attack if confronted with a weapon.

//A police booking affidavit notes that Carlson “made multiple statements that he is a member of the Aryan Nation, KKK, and Hell’s Angels.”//

Another example of a crazy individual allowed to wander the streets like a wild animal. Part of the urban landscape, unfortunately.

For some reason on the streets of Salt Lake it’s “I’m CIA undercover Agent 398692”. Really I’ve heard it 10 times from various “Unhoused Citizens”.

Of course, nothing else happens in SLC.
Ps. Don’t carry a pipe when you leave for work, just sayin.

Are newspapers still a thing?

This reminds me of a movie scene where a guy wrapped a metal pipe with a broadsheet and used it to defend himself against thugs.

SLC… Nice place to live… and learn how to survive :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I start thinking about visiting SLC to verify if my situational awareness is in good shape…

WTH @Karacal you can’t use a lead pipe. What about the children, and the unborn babies being exposed to lead?

Maybe I’m alone here in this, I would ‘Gear up’ my mind
find a solid back drop like a store wall and let him come @ me.
I’ve NEVER run.
If asswipe wants a piece of me, I will oblige. one on one? Bring it!
A Pipe is just fine to bring to a fight because unless he gets lucky
I will fell him like a tree. I wouldn’t even consider my gun.
My ‘Carolina’s’ are quite capable of dissolving Testicles.
A little Krav blocking/defensive action and (3) or more swift kicks to
the groin and call the Po-Po.
With my disabilities I don’t run and try and watch over my shoulder
A three legged dog can beat me in a foot chase. I will fight.
If I felt kindly that day I’d just OC him w/ my gel spray first then knock him out.
Whatever defensive measures I’d choose he will be worse for wear than me when
he wakes up. Taking into consideration he’s nutz I will end it as quick as I can
for both our sakes. People recover (eventually) from dented balls.

This sounds perfect!

The victim told police that Carlson — a person he says he has never met — followed him for several blocks while holding a 12-inch metal pipe and “yelling racist remarks and profanity,” such as, “I’m a white supremacist,” and “I’ll murder you. I am a violent contract killer,” the charges state. The victim stated that Carlson also swung the piece of metal at him while trying to take his wallet.

I am fortunate in that I rarely have to walk down city streets with crazy people. The homeless people in our nearby “city” are pretty tame for the most part. I am also rarely far from my vehicle so usually have quick access to a shield and means of escape.

But in this scenario I guess it would depend on all the variables involved. Ideally I would have seen this person with the pipe before they noticed me and stayed far enough away to not get on their radar screen. I have had my life threatened on several occasions by crazy and/or angry people. I’ve always been able to walk, talk, jog or drive my way out of those situations. Most times the threats are empty but we do have to be prepared to quickly use whatever force is necessary in case they turn out not to be.

If a person swung a heavy object at me then I would consider myself under a deadly force attack and respond accordingly.

Now if it was a clearly crazy person shouting threats and doing some Carrenza at a distance and not aiming directly at me I might try deescalation and less forceful tactics first while preparing to go full force if necessary. But their threats and the presence of a weapon present a clear imminent threat so I wouldn’t blame anyone for using force to get out of that situation.

You would be blamed in California. Sad but true.

I can only speak for Texas, and Texas is a “Stand Your Ground” state. If someone is acting in a manner as what is described in the article, a citizen has the right to defend himself up to and including, if required, the use of deadly force.

I am with Don102 on this one. I am too old to run, so we’re gonna scrap. If he is swinging a pipe and threatening my life, I will make every effort to send him to his maker.

It’s ok, it has a Prop 65 warning label

Oh, ok, that solves the problem, that was close. I thought someone was about to commit eco terrorism and cause an ecological disaster. Man, those signs really come in handy for those who would break the law. Just put a label/sticker on it. Nothing to see here, move along people, move along. Your lucky you had that label.

If you had it painted with water colors (non oil based) would it be considered “concealed”?
