Actually, that’s usually where we start off Thanksgiving morning when my brother, my nephew and fiance come to visit…that’s how we roll at my house under my rules…
Great thread! I live about 700 miles from my closest relative. That solves many issues, but even when I am “back in town” I am usually carrying. They know my LE background and never ask if I am.
My local family all assume that I carry “everywhere” so they don’t ask. If someone were to make an issue of it, there are three possible responses I’ve considered,
- I’ll stay understanding they know I stay armed;
- I’ll leave and stay armed; or
- If they are obnoxious, I’ll invite them to call the police and have the police cite them as a retired LEO. I understand I won’t be invited back after they have to pay a $500 fine.
Luckily, it’s never been an issue except once visiting my mother. She was talking about a relative going to prison for armed robbery saying he had a Glock 26 with hollow point bullets. I couldn’t help myself! I turned around, upholstered and cleared my EDC and asked her “you mean like this?”
Deer in the headlights followed. Then she got a history lesson on 2A, Glock and JHP ammo.
@MikeBKY - My family is close to 1,400 miles away.
I would love to have that conversation with my mother.
What??? You drew down on your own mother??? Mike you’re a baaaaaad mo fo sir…….I would have been too afraid of getting “the switch” afterwards…
I would smoke a carton of ciggs during holidays to avoid certain conversations,
The people that know me well enough to invite me, know me well enough to know I carry. If you dont want a gun in your house you dont want me in your house. Its just that simple.
My family all know I do as well…
This last mothers day I’m not sure what ticked them off.
My siblings and I keep in contact all year and today is my youngest 21st birthday and guess what she wants…
A fire-arm
Before she gets one we are going to the range and sees which one does her best as well as review some safety because she has a young one in diapers.
Carry concealed 4 of mine…
IWB small of the back sub-compact
NAA mini revolver pocket
Taurus Ultrlite snub nose ankle
G34 OWB.
If someone wants the one I always carry on my right hip, secured in the car, sure thing, got 3 others they don’t know about.
Let me know if she would rather have a female take her to the range - @Zee and I can take a road trip
Get her started right! And you can gift a USCCA membership now!
I do not believe if someone has a bunch of anti gun relatives its prudent to bring a gun to a bunch of gun hating people in light of the new laws or proposed laws regards to extreme risk protection. Holidays can be a time for lots of problems when families come together. Holidays can be much fun or a time of further destruction. From my personal experiences as a Funeral Director lots of suicides and remorseful behavior. In other words a person may have had one to many. I remember a family one Thanksgiving I just turned off the lights and was on the porch of the funeral home locking the door to go home for a family Thanksgiving and a family of 15 walks up my stairs of the funeral home and said Husband/Father/Uncle just was shot at the family thanksgiving dinner over a disagreement so I opened the door and we went to our conference room for funeral arrangements. So my thoughts no matter how tempting to be armed is to leave the gun at home.
She probably would have had a lot more fun with girls today! You guys should come take a road trip and teach her a thing or two more than me!
I know I could learn a few things from you girls as well! Tonight she is going to the boat casinos for the first time…hope she doesn’t go home broke
After getting her the Glock 19 today, I think that would be a GREAT Christmas present to go along with it. I don’t know why she liked the Glock 19 but no complaints from me. At least she chose the right brand
I’m totally in for that
Like I said, Yall could teach me a thing or two…
I know she would love having some girls there, I mean with all the dudes there and their huge egos you know!!!
Me one of them!!
Glock 19 is one of my carry choices you can tell her I approve
I approved!!! I carry the 17 which we know the only difference is only in length.
I told her that she would have to decide which one felt better in her hand! She shoots it well too…
We have some more days at the range to accomplish, but we had fun **The smiles is the best part about today!
So glad she’s getting in to it. Keep her engaged.
My Glock 45 is still my favorite, especially on trips out of town. My P365 is my go to in my hometown. Glock 19 is an excellent choice.
Yes, sir. I fully intend too! We are already planning this weekend at the range!!
I’m just glad it was Glock as well as I didn’t have to spend boo Ku on a sig because she had it in hand I was sweating the price
