I do that now and again on my range but I don’t like being six” or closed to wood when a bullet hits. I get back about three feet.
seem to recall there is a conditional requirement of NOT escalating the situation???
if you carry best to just not argue with folks… and try to avoid such things…
otherwise you could face charges of murder???
I still argue, I don’t get emotional about it. I think that is the key.
It’s not you, it’s the reaction of the person you are “arguing” with. If they turn violent and you are armed, you could be seen as escalating the confrontation. Best to avoid that all together, even if not armed.
Thanks for your concern. That is not me. If I don’t put a stop to it, it won’t stop. That is the problem everybody thinks someone else should do it and they shouldn’t have to. I carry a gun to save lives.
I’m with @Robert1246 on this one. We must unwrap from the fetal position, stretch out and stand up to this stuff. The criminals are simply loving the passive, everyone comply attitude.
Avoiding the confrontation is not being passive and complying. That is using the mind God gave you. Choose your battles, arguing with idiots on the street is not a good idea - there are far too many of them and if it gets violent, you will be the one prosecuted, if you are still alive. You were given one life, protect those most important to you, not your ego.
@Robert1246
The USCCA trains us to de-escalate
If I remember the video correctly, the big guy came up to a smaller guy pissed off and tossing him around. Not much the smaller guy could do to avoid it. This where you need a pocket OC spray. Get it out when possible, spray the aggressor and run to safety.
I can only speak for myself but it’s my nature to de-escalate. Uscca confirms it. I think/feel it will turn into a traumatic experience if I don’t.
Question: do you practice with the target six inches in front of you, drawing from the hip and pointing? Because that is what you need to do.
YES
TBH, not from that close because I shoot into RR ties with a qtr inch plywood nailed to it. I’m afraid of blow back from that distance but I have done it from 2’. Now that my neighbor that ran cattle is no longer running cattle I guess I could staple a target btwn fence rails. I’ll post a target soon from that distance. ![]()
PS I’ve been working on a cinder block wall to make another space to garden. After I’m done with that, I’ll post the target.
I do fast, waist level point shooting drills every time I go to the range. I use my pocket revolver for it because it’s a pretty likely situation for immediate, suprise self defense need. Also I’m not spitting brass up toward my face. Target 3 yards out, 2 center mass hits. It took me a little getting used to the muzzle flash down there and close to my body.
Avoiding confrontation is not avoiding people all together. avoiding confrontation, is stopping confrontation before it escalates.
I keep being drawn back to this thread by new comments.
At no time during the clip is there a “threat of death or serious bodily harm”.
If someone drew a gun it was a new game!
The requirement is belief of serious bodily harm or the threat of it. A gun doesn’t have to be present. A person 6’4” whooping arse on a guy 5’4” is a serious threat I think of great bodily harm.
Correct, only avoiding the one(s) that appear to be a threat. Some of those may not actually be a threat, but if your gut tells you, you should listen. If you are not there, there is nothing to de-escalate - a far better place to be in.

If there is a threat and I know or can’t see of a way the threat will stop unless I do something about it, I will stop the threat. I know I am being vague but I don’t know any way else to put it.
You must be one of those mythical folks who got a Badge and Cape with their CCW!
