Anything that fits your skill level.
Even $12 knife from Amazon does the job. Check Tac-Force knives. Just keep it sharp. ![]()

My Smith and Wesson folder is only $26 on Amazon or at Walmart,…
But it works well for me so long as I keep the edge sharp.
an EDC knife serves a different function than an EDC gun.
Its purpose in my kit is to cut things.
Like a seatbelt in the case of a car accident where I need to extract the victim or watch them burn.
Like cutting a shirt into strips to put pressure on a wound or make an impromptu tourniquet to save a life.
Or in the words of mad dog himself…

Unless you are very good at sharpening a blade, stay away from SSTL. Carbon steel is not only easier to sharpen, but if you make a mistake, easier to fix.
Good question.
Not certain about your budget, but here are a couple that I like:
Unfortunately, made in China but works incredibly well. Further, this blade is D2. Most Chinese companies advertise “D2”, but they are not.
Look closely and read the reviews. This one is interesting, and can be found on Amazon for $38.96, as well:
Outdoor Self Defense Pocket Knife, 9070 Pocket Folding Knife, D2 Steel Blade Non-Slip Fiberglass Handle, EDC Multi-Functional Sharp Tactical Knife for Outdoor, Tactical, Survival and EDC
