What is your favorite local shooting range and why?

I too like Gator. Usually I go to Palm Beach Shooting Center. Freindly staff, service does not go down because I bring my own ammo. Although I regularly buy firearms at Shoot Straight, I don’t do much range time there.

Some friends and I did that and put everything on rollers, that were basically the size of plywood so we could reconfigure room and then when room was in use we had built a berm of used tires all around it and some cheap go pros, including roof. We used industrial fans to keep air moving right.

It got spendy when some smart ass kept shooting the go pros. That smart ass may have had a passing resemblance to someone who looked like me about 100 lbs. ago. My rationale was if I was taking down a building, I would take down comms and video. Plus I had a trainer, teach me a very important lesson
There is ALWAYS a bad guy behind the door you just kicked in.

We even used it for training local tac teams using paintball. SWAT teams in my opinion, weren’t that great, (no disrespect, they didn’t train 12 on 12) they were to used to having all of the advantages. So when meeting up with an equally tactical team in a free flow communication environment they usually did poorly.

Got to where no LEO’s wanted to use us as Op force anymore. So we went back to paintballing.

Well, depending on your definitions of ‘local’ and ‘favorite’.

There’s a great little indoor range about 10 min away from me: https://ontargetrange.com/ which has a full service FFL, Gun & Ammo sales, A great selection of rental guns and lots of classes available at multiple skill levels, but the range is only 25 yards and is indoors,

About an hour drive away though is http://www.burrocanyon.com/ which is an outdoor range op in the mountains. It has ranges up to 210 yards and is just a great outdoor range with ammo sales at the check-in counter but it’s a better range overall because you can do things there that are not allowed at the indoor range.

I spend a lot of time at both ranges, and both have their pros and cons, but within about a 80 mile radius of me, those are my top 2.

I like Shoot Straight in Tampa. They have a large indoor range (18 lanes, I think), and a large selection of handguns and long guns, accessories, ammo, knives, and safes. The staff is very knowledgeable, and very safety-conscious. I also buy my guns there. I know I can probably get my guns cheaper elsewhere, though likely not by much. I like patronizing the closest local gun shop. They have similar facilities throughout Florida.

The USSA facility just north of Tulsa, Ok. There are several individual shooting stations with berms on three sides, which is an excellent place to practice drawing and shooting. It’s outdoors and very large.
I have included a link to their website … http://usshootingacademy.mobi/
