The model was about a year old when I bought mine. It was impossible to find at any local gun store, and none would order one. First come, first served, no waiting lists… I bought mine at a gun show. It came with one 5 and one 7-round magazine. I normally carry with the 7. At times I swap to the 5, just depends on the amount of ‘show’ from the bottom of the mag. I carry a second 7 with me at all times with an third one close by and possibly my two fives as well.
Yeah they were in high demand when i got one also. I actually preordered mine which is how I got it. I also tend to use the 7 more
Than the 5 and keep the 5 as my reload if needed. Also one has fmj for deeper penetration if I am going against a boar and the other has two frangible then the rest are self defense rounds in case the two frangible don’t bring the target down.
Sorry I haven’t introduced myself yet. I’ve been wanting to own a firearm since I was married to my first husband, but I hadn’t gotten around to it for various reasons. In March of this year I was divorcing my 2nd husband and took my Conceal Carry class after my divorce was finalized. I recently had a class with an instructor that had several firearms for me to try, but no where near all the ones that are on my list. My mom currently carries a Ruger Security 9 concealed and she’s been my cheerleader in my journey into the concealed carry lifestyle. I joined USCCA in March and I’ve been having marathons of the videos and reading as much as I can as I try to narrow down my list of possible firearms. While I try to save up the money and everything, I prepare myself mentally in case the fit hits the shan, as Toby Keith says in one of his songs. My mom is even in love with USCCA just from what I’ve told her about it. I’ve made sure she has access to all the information I have, since I’m an Elite member, until she joins. (And you can bet I’m going to refer her so we can get even more great things!)
I’m simply soaking up as much information as I can get my hands on and passing it along to my mom.
Welcome, @HeatherLP! Glad to have you here! Have you narrowed your gun choices down at all?
And please invite your mom to the Community! You don’t have to me a USCCA member to participate in the Community! (She will have to make a free account for herself.
Let me know if she needs any assistance with that!)
Welcome @HeatherLP. Glad to hear you have a support system from your mother.
my guess is you’re pushing the trigger left at the end of the trigger pull. Just bought one (in .22) and because the trigger pull, relative to what I usually shoot, is VERY long and VERY much heavier right at the end my first several magazines were mostly low-left. My granddaughter had the same issue.
I changed my idea of how to think of the trigger pull this way:
Instead of thinking of the pull length as being from the front of the trigger travel to the back of the trigger travel, I think of it as from the front of the trigger travel back to the center of my chest.
This visual and kinesthetic idea gives me a line-of-travel for my trigger pull that is 2 feet long, instead of 1 inch long… errors are greatly reduced if the trigger “line” I’m controlling is a lot longer.
Using this idea for where my trigger finger is traveling immediately reduced the error on my groups, and on my granddaughter’s groups, by more than half.
sometimes these things are hard to describe in words… let me know if that explanation is not clear and I’ll draw up an illustration ![]()
Hello My name is James Ray Toney I rejoined the USCCA for the second time. I look forward to being a part of a great site.
Greeting’s All. I am a Disable U.S. Navy Veteran that has experience as both a Correctional Officer and a Private investigator. I currently live in the Rapid City SD. area. My wife and I are also into Medieval Reenactment So not only do we own firearms but also Bow’s, Swords and Knives which, we have learned to use to a fair degree of efficiency.
Welcome @James_Ray and @Lester - glad to have you both here!
Thank you for your service, @Lester!
Hi Everyone,
My name is Rick and I have been a member of USCCA for 2.5 years now. I enjoy shooting and I have a Utah carry permit that is good in 36 states now. I actually joined USCCA before I got the carry permit. I enjoy the resources available with USCCA and believe it to be one of my saner investments. I carry a Springfield Armory TRP Operator unless it is really hot. Then I carry a new model Colt Cobra with Underwood Xtreme Perpetrator ammo. I have had extensive firearm training when I was a Deputy Sheriff when I was much younger and have shot recreationally for as long as I can remember. I carry because I have been in situations that could have ended badly for my family or myself. I enjoy collecting odd guns and shooting them. I have a couple FP45 Liberators (Rated for 50 rounds and is a beast to shoot) and a couple first generation Wildeys. My entire family enjoys shooting and I have bought several nieces their first guns. I usually get them Henry .22 rifles although I got different older .22s for my two grandsons (a Marlin Model 25 bolt action and a Remington Nylon Model 66) . I enjoy teaching people how to shoot safely and make sure they have fun while doing so.
Keep up the great work USCCA! I hope I never need to use the self defense coverage but I rest easier knowing I have it if needed.
Hi my name is Michael I am new to the club hope I enjoy being a member of the club safe shooting everyone
Welcome @Borisd63 and @MICHAEL_ANGELO! glad you’re here!
Might be a little quiet for the next day or so, but find a thread that interests you and jump on in!
I go by the handle “Chief”. I am a retired Army Chief Warrant Officer. I spent 20+ years in the Army. I was a police officer for 7 years in Washington D.C. I am also an Episcopal priest for the last 20 years. I have carried concealed and open for the last 30 years. As a police officer I was shot on a traffic stop and since that moment I have never been without a fire arm. I have been involved in self defense training in one way shape or form since I was a police officer. I have taken training at Gunsite Academy, I"m a certified NRA pistol instructor and State of Texas Certified License to Carry Instructor. The best advice I have received concerns situational awareness - make sure you have it. My preferred carry gun is a Springfield XD Mod 2 dependable and accurate. I have a few others I carry based on how I have to dress, but the XD Mod 2 is my go to handgun. I train at least twice a week and compete in Steel Challenge and IDPA every month. I’ve been with USCCA for a number of years and have always found useful articles in Concealed Carry Magazine.
I am now retired, but I was a tool and diemaker for 39 years. My husband and I obtained our CCW in Missouri in 2016. He passed away over two years ago but I still live in Kansas City, MO. I am both a member of the USCCA and U.S. Texas Lawsheild protection organizations. I am a three year member of the Well-Armed Woman group locally. I recently acheived my NRA Pistol Instructor Certification, but have yet to find an opportunity to teach a class.
I am hardly a person to consider uninitiated (“noob”); neither am I remotely an expert. But, I certainly have opinions. Hopefully I won’t bloviate too often.
Background: I’ve concealed since late 2013 and been a platinum member of USCCA for 3 years.
Despite the fact that I own several firearms and carry all the time, I am not a gun nut. I have way too many gun-unrelated hobbies to establish that as fact.
My upbringing runs completely counter to owning firearms, and the decision to conceal did not go smoothly. There are so many things I don’t know: not the stuff of guns but the yutz of right and wrong. Is it right for a citizen of the United States to own a firearm? Yes. That’s easy. Is it right to consider… killing someone? Yes, I believe it is to protect. But, at what cost?
I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. That wholly defines me. Shallow? Nope. Remember? I’m not a gun nut, but I am also not a religious fanatic. I want to be – I try to be – good. I want my God to be pleased with how I took care of my family, provided for them, protected them, and lived a life of a good Christian.
I also have bipolar 2, depression disorder, and stress/anxiety disorder. I have to take a fistful of meds every day. All of them help to suppress urges of self-harm. Do the disorders worry me? You bet. There have been times I’ve had to hang up the holster for a while.
I once asked a cop what I can do to help him feel better about concealed carrying. He replied: train and practice. So, I re-qualify biweekly, training both of my hands and both of my eyes, and I heed my Coach.
Welcome to the site and this side of the pond. Thanks for your service and I look forward to getting a glimpse of your trade craft. I am ex Army with 3 years in Europe.
Happy Monday! I hope you all had a fabulous 4th of July weekend! Please help me welcome everyone who has joined over the last 10 days!

Greetings: Relatively new member since 2015 but somewhat inactive, wanting to restart with a safe community that understands law, responsibility, privacy and respectful safe ownership and practice. I think I have found that here.
At 66 years old I’ve a few things on my bucket list one of which is near future travel. The world is changing as we know it and one needs be prepared and safe as possible. That said, business and personal responsibilities have been keeping me from doing more. I enjoy target shooting and while hunting has been limited I look to get more involved time permitting. While I have been a target shooter over a number of years an individual who was also a student at a local college sent me peculiar emails that appeared to be threatening. I contacted law enforcement and received support and instruction both very helpful and with the encouragement of a collogue decided to carry concealed.
I have no military experience other than instruction from my father now deceased who was a member of the 101st Airborne WWII. He taught us as children at the earliest age how to safely handle firearms and what it meant to protect family and country in whatever order came first. I have a basic training certificate with hand guns after completing a course which was very helpful, as well as took a hunters training course at age 60. They say its’s never too late so there’s your proof:)
Favorite all around plinking and target gun is a S&W 20cal semi auto with adjustable sights, great fun for target.
I had gotten involved with local family and took a few teens under my wing, safety, basic training etc., one of which I took with me to the hunters training the young man at 14, hunted with him locally and still keep in touch.
Family involvement is somewhat limited as desire not really there but my wife and son have come target shooting with me on numerous occasions as I believe necessary to be at least be safe with a weapon and know how to use if ever necessary. I hope the occasion never arises.
That said any thoughts or suggestions are welcome. Be safe, be pared and have a great day.
Tom Miller
Thank you Dawn, I love the USCCA, I hope I never have to make that call but it is sure a great comfort knowing I have someone that has my back. I carried for a long time
without protection, never giving much thought to being sued or in prison away from my family forever. I never even thought if I wound someone with a bad shot I would have to support him for the rest of my life and his family. I can hold my head with confident and not leave my firearm at home or in my vehicle anymore. So for the ones that think, I don’t need coverage don’t pull the trigger without USCCA you will find out you are all " Alone" God Bless and be safe.
Thanks for the warm welcome, @Dawn!
I’m a Christian, a husband, and an Air Force veteran. Since 2016 I’ve also been a USCCA member.
I was blown away as a kid by how easily you can insure yourself in your car, which you’re pretty much guaranteed to be in some level of accident with, but for fighting back against a mugging or assault there was virtually no protection.
That has changed since I was young, but nobody really comes close to what the USCCA offers. So, I joined.
When I retire I’d like to follow my passions and become a USCCA instructor. Until then, I’ll stick with working IT. It’s not necessarily my passion, but I like it and it pays the bills plus enough to make that retirement come sooner!
