welcome larry84! I was doing some work in Orange Co. when the LA riots were going on…had the back window blasted of my pickup. I had a MT. plate at the time, maybe the perps didn’t know where MT on the map was.

Thanks Ski, Orange County has changed and not for the good. I lived though the Watts riots and the Rodney King event. It was a little tense at times.

Size of the firearm, as to fitting your hand well is important. Caliber is your preference, as is number of rounds. I prefer firearms without external safeties. One rule of firearms is safeties are mechanical devices that can fail.

I CC a full-frame PX4 Storm in .45 ACP. Clothing and holster choices matter. I also have a subcompact PX4 Storm in 9 mm. Both have the same manual of arms, and about the same backstrap to trigger distance. I used to carry the 9 ambidextrous IWB, but my body out grew that option. Now, either one, I carry in a leather holster OWB with a good leather gun belt, and as I like wearing Hawaiian shirts in the Summer anyway, I discovered they work well. In the cooler months, a long shirt untucked, worn as a jacket, works well. I can’t carry at work, so that is never an issue.

My name is John and I am from Chesapeake, VA. I am a retired NYPD Detective and was assigned to the Firearms Analysis Section in the position of firearms examiner. I was assigned to work at the Staten Island Landfill after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Since retiring in July of 2004 I have been doing armed and unarmed security work. My hobbies are fishing, range time, watching my favorite people doing gun reviews on YouTube and watching movies. I been married for 15 years with my beautiful wife Star. Greetings fellow USCCA community,

I recently retired from IT. The wife and I are enjoying our Golden Years at home.

Since 2005, I been a member of USCCA, NRA and obtained my concealed carry permit. Also, this was the year I spent some time in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina with FEMA NV Task Force 1 Search & Rescue as a Communications Specialist. Amateur Radio has been one of my interests along with self-defense.

Now a days I spend my time learning, practicing and staying motivated on personal self-defense. I enjoy all of the USCCA’s self-defense videos, books and interviews.

I enjoy watching Active Self Protection critiques of defensive shooting incidents on YouTube.

I also follow Andrew Branca’s blog on current legal cases as it relates to the Law of Self-Defense, ever since I read his best selling book by the same title.

Lately I have tried to improve my dry firing skills since the local gun ranges are shut down. I’ve been looking at affordable simulators using laser inserts or blue guns with reactive targets. Thinking of moving up to the Smokeless Range to add more challenges and fun with the laser guns.

I’ll have to admit, I only own Glocks but always try to keep an open mind. I currently own the following handguns:

Glock 26 in 9 mm

Glock 23 in 40 caliber

Glock 30 in 45 caliber

Glock 43 in 9mm single stack

Glock 19 in 9 mm magazine 15 rounds

I also own a variety of rifles (AR-15, AKA 47, shotguns, 22LR) but lack the training to be very proficient. That is on my bucket list, now that I have more time.

Look forward to interacting with fellow USCCA members…
