Hello, new to the group and was hoping to get an opinion on the Streamlight ProTac Rail Mount 2 Weapon Light with Tapeswitch - 625 Lumens.
I’ve heard good and bad about it and I know it’s not the best on the market, but I need something to get started with. Any guidance would be appreciated!
Hello! Do you happen to have one of their pistol lights? I’ve heard great things about those, or just a different rifle light?
My EDC light is the Streamlight 88061 ProTac 1L-1AA which I love, lightweight, durable, and bright. My pistol lights are an Olight PL Mini 2, PL-3R, and Nightstick TWM-30
I was looking at the Olights as well, working well for you?
Absolutely no issues with them.
Awesome! Thank you for the help!
I have a TLR-8 and am very, very happy with it. I am a big fan of Streamlight products and have them on all my ARs as well.
Welcome
I have some streamlight lights and love them
I don’t own any firearm mounted Streamlights but I have read of people having reliability issues with remote switch lights. Having a thin cord attached to an additional electronic switch seems like two extra potential fail points to me.
I currently use an Inforce WMLx Gen 2 (the Gen 1s had durability issues fixed by the redesign) and am considering an Olight PL Turbo for a new acquisition since they are so affordable and seem well reviewed. I have had very good luck with Olight handheld lights and also have their PL-Mini 2 Valkyrie on my home defense pistol.
Awesome, thank you for the input!
I’ve seen the Inforce lights before but never looked into them. Has it been working out well for you, or is that why you’re looking at the Olights now?
The Inforce light works great for me. Though I only have a few hundred rounds through the rifle with that light on it so can’t personally speak to long term durability.
I am in the process of acquiring a self defense shotgun for a price I couldn’t refuse and want to put a light on it as well. So I am actually thinking of putting the Inforce Gen 2 on the shotgun since I have seen some posts from people saying they have held up to the extra pounding. Then I will try the Olight PL Turbo on my rifle. Just waiting for the next Olight sale to pick one up.
Thank you! Great info.
My O’light Odin died. I have quite a few O’lights. The thing I don’t like about the rifle and flashlights is the proprietary batteries. I find charging can be a bit strange as well, sometimes a light will not take a charge, then spin the magnetic charger and it’s charging.
That was the only thing I had seen that worried me as well since I can’t just pop in spare batteries and get up and running again. But I didn’t even think about the proprietary charger possibly having issues as well. Thanks for the info!
The Olight PL Turbo uses standard cr123a batteries. Though I think they do make a rechargeable version of that light as well.
A few of their other lights can use either their proprietary battery or a standard option. But their proprietary batteries are specially tuned for their lights and usually make the light brighter for significantly longer than other manufacturers so I don’t mind using their batteries.
I have a couple of their handheld lights that I use for work, EDC or bedside that have gotten some hard use and are still working well. But my experience with their weapon mounted lights is much more limited.
The Odin uses what looks like an 18650, but it’s longer and trying to charge it using a non proprietary charger failed as it’s too long…get the feeling my Marauder is the same, and that uses 4 or 6 batteries. Funny that I have had good luck with Amazon cheapies, push switch in the back, and smiled (well, sort of) looking at my son’s collection of equipment after he passed…the pvs14, Daniel Defense set ups, the Stream lights, level 4 armor, coms, ifaks etc…and one of those Amazon cheapies ready to quick mount to a rail…
I’ve also used Crimson trace weapon lights, going strong after 4 or 5 years now.
My condolences about your son…
And thank you for sharing the info. I saw those Crimson lights at Academy yesterday and kinda just wrote them off, but 4-5 years sounds like they work just fine! Do you have it on a Pistol or AR/rifle?
