Sorry guys I wasn’t sure what to put the subject under but say I’m walking down the street in Corpus Christi Texas. Am I legal to hold my gun and my host on the outside of me? No, I am not considered to carry because I don’t have a license, but we are open carry in Texas

I’ll let Texans chime in.
Open carrying is like choosing to be a target. My $.02.
So maybe not cause a 40 on a female is very intimidating to a lot of people, but I don’t wanna leave it at home and walk by myself
All depends on the neighborhood.
In my case there are places I carry and places I don’t want to carry. You have to figure out what is more dangerous.
You do not need a license/permit to conceal or open carry in Texas.
“… As of Sept. 1, 2021, permitless concealed carry and open carry is legal for anyone at least 21 years old who may lawfully possess a handgun. The new law applies to both open carry in a holster and concealed carry, where no part of the firearm is visible. Texas law is quite specific in that openly carried handguns must be kept in a holster…”

Thank you
Texas residents and nonresidents?
Yes, both, so long as you are “lawful” (of age, not prohibited, etc).
Fortunately I also live in an open carry state.
I find the freedom liberating. I still, after 25 years concealed carry and the fact that I’m pre-elderly, there’s no chance I will open carry!
If I was Chuck Norris at this age I would not have a problem!
Weapon retention is key as well as surprise!
I prefer my intended target be completely shocked and disoriented when I draw down. Kimber .45ACP 7 + 1 chambered round!
Open carry has its upside, not so much as a deterrent but speed of draw! Choose wisely!
After reading your statement again, new recommendation, get the license, it gives you more “freedom” ( using the term loosely ) to carry any way you’re comfortable!
I would suggest checking the complete meaning of concealed.
I don’t mean to sound like a Clinton, ( I know what “IS” is! ) but if open carry is slightly shielded by an open blouse/shirt/jacket, in Texas, is that considered concealed?
Or is that brandishing…a concealed weapon?
Well that just made my comments moot! Didn’t see yours before opening my mouth ![]()

lol that’s ok
Thank you I got a smile out that chuck norris he’s my fav of all time hahahha
Welcome to the forums Felicia.
Texas is open carry for licensed gun owners, they implemented that in 2016. Which is sad, Oregon has been open carry since the inception of the state.
That is my mental reservation with open carry for myself. I have one holster that has a thumb-break, but I don’t consider that much of a deterant to someone sneaking up behind me and grabing it out of the holster.
If I was truely motivated to open carry, I would invest in a full duty rig retention holster like Miltary and Police use.
Adding to what Scott52 said. Regardless of carry preference get the license. Remember the 1,000ft school rule. Where I live and the places I go I am all too often inside 1,000’ of school grounds. Don’t know anyone’s individual situation, but in my situation it’s a necessity if I want to carry.
The only thing to add to ZoldFrog is for open carry holster needs to attatch to your belt.
Not anymore.
You can carry in any type of holster, as long as it secures the firearm.
Same, same! If there’s a 7/11 or a Dollar Store there’s a school!
That means on every corner of any city/town with a population greater than 500 you’re within a school limit!
