Certainly exposing your gun when it is carried behind your back is asking for spectator attention. That said, this looks to be a crime of opportunity to me. I doubt this guy went to the store looking for someone’s gun to steal. The other thing that jumped out to me, Situational Awareness. I have on many occasions turned and faced a person that I thought was posturing up on me. If I even feel like someone is taking a real close look at me, like this guy was, my clothes, my stance etc. I pay special attention to them.

This was a learning experience to me. How a cell phone can also be a distraction. This perp had his way with her and she’s lucky to be alive. She could’ve been killed with her own firearm. This can happen to anyone. No one really knows who’s watching them to see if they are carrying a firearm. A lot can be said.

This is my primary concern with carrying with one in the chamber, but I still think the benefits outweigh the risks.

If I live in open carry State, that would be one of reasons for concealed carry.

There are two things I don’t like about open carry:

  • easy access to the firearm for everybody (not only me, as a carrier)
  • loss of element of surprise in case of confrontation

As @Johnnyq60 mentioned - situational awareness is a big factor. Phone’s destruction, two men in hoodies inside the store? It was like invitation: “Come and take me or my gun” :person_facepalming:

Condition White, due to cell phone is the top problem here.
But also, a good ad for concealed, rather than open carry.

She was asking for it.

Open carry should be done with a holster designed for open carry. Multiple levels of active retention that need to be defeated. And should be carried somewhere at if not forward of 3 or 9 o’clock depending on handedness. An open top holster carried openly behind your back is just plain poor decision making IMO

Or almost hidden under your flab in your stretchy pants.

Very poor judgement on the part of the cop. Makes one wonder what sort of decisions she makes in her daily activities.

When you set the bar low, people will achieve it…

Carry Israeli style for this reason exactly if I’m in a crowded place ( Walmart ) I carry outside waist level 2 holster Israeli style I know you have to practice to get proficient at this style but it has worked your concealed carry is always ready to rock out like an adolescent male in a porn shop . Son it’s not real, no woman will ever love you that much to do those things. Maybe on birthdays or anniversaries lol !

That’s why I never open carry, even when it is allowed.

Thank you for sharing this @Johnnyq60
I would echo what others have said about situational awareness and a strong case for concealed carry even in a open carry environment like Kentucky. This is one reason I think twice about open carry even though it’s been tempting for convenience sake.

One of the best examples of what NOT to do, CCW or open carry.
