So much to comment on here.
First: Good for you! Thinking about storage safety is a sign of responsibility.
The great trade off is access vs safety, right? Even soldiers unload their weapons and store them when off duty. In high threat environments weapons may be loaded and in hands reach. Are you in such an environment? Do you have any sleep terrors or PTSD? If so, consider reducing access to your firearms. I’ve rolled out of nightmares ready to fight before. Know yourself.
Children are another confounder. Can a child or irresponsible adult access the weapon when unattended? If so, you sacrifice access for a biometric safe or locked case.
In my State, it’s illegal to not secure a loaded weapon in your home. If a child or mentally challenged individual gets access to your gun you could be charged. What are your States laws?
In my home, which is visited by children, I have a lock on my bedroom and biometric safe for my pistol. The safe has both mine and my spouses fingerprints. My car has a safe in the truck which is chained in place for my SHTF gun. The rest of my weapons are in a locked armory. Why? Children and low threat environment.
